Topic: Graphic card suggestion

I've found out that my current graphic card is dying. There are alot of 'colored' dots on my screen' and ingame there are lines everywhere.

So I came to the conclusion that I need a new one. But which one? I'm not quite sure I've never realy been into computers and all that, so pherhaps maybe some of you guys can help me pick something good out. The only real things that I want is: play BF2142 on highest quality, and it must be better then the GeForce 7900 GT/GTO.

My system:
AMD Athlon (tm) 64 X2 Dual
Core Processor 3800+
2.01 GHz, 2.00 GB of RAM

So wich card would be the best for me ? smile

Re: Graphic card suggestion

It depends on how much money you have to spend
if you have quite a bit of money i'd buy an 8800, but then again im not an expert with this stuff wink

This is my card: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a … 6814127286

Was a fairly cheap card and can run 2142 on all high and can run crysis at medium.

My quattro started doing the chineese carpet thing too , with geometrical tracers sprouting off of objects .
But before completely replacing it , I tested it with some circuitboard chiller spray.
When It got hot, it would start to mess up ... I hit it with the spray right in the heat-sink to cool the chip , and the problem went away until it warmed back up.
So, i tore off the stock fan and sink, used thermal-epoxy to mount a larger, better heat-sink to the GPU chip , and right now for the last 4 days , no problems at all. no chineese carpets  floating araound.   I also added two strips of copper to the tops of the memory chips mounted on the graphics card also.   Thermal epoxy kicks pie.

-> GPU: 8800, 9600 or 9800 from nvidea or 3850 / 3870 from ATI

important:
-> 256 Bit Memory Interface
-> 512 MB VideoRam on the Card
-> avoid high end cards (=high price, rapid loose of value)
-> aviod X2 Cards and SLI/Crossfire if you don't have a real big TFT (over 1600 x 1200 resolution)

Test from FiringSquad (nvidea 9600 & competion):

Have also a look at the power consumption of the cards... 5 FpS/$ more don't count if you need a new Power Supply Unit wink

Re: Graphic card suggestion

Dont forget that those cheap card usually die faster also.
You get what you pay for, ultimately, unfortunately.
