Re: Rebel Alliance Strategy Announcement.

Yeah just 2 days ago I went up there with my Packard Mortar Launcher and started raining red balls-o-death on the Imps.  Got some chuckles watching them scurry around like ants.  Still all it took to clear me off was a sneaky sniper hiding in the bushes to pop me in the noggin.

First rule of the PMG: Nothing pisses enemies off like it big_smile . Bombard them with PMG bolts and they'll be all over you in seconds. I've never seen any weapon in any FPS provoke attack more than the PMG. It's almost scary big_smile .

Hehe, once with Jafar we formed a mortar team with three PMGs, a medic to keep us alive, a support guy to give us ammo, and Jafar as the officer. Unfortunately we didn't get to shoot much as our CP was attacked and we had to fight for our lives, but if we had gotten a bombardment going, taking turns to fire our PMGs, with a shield dome for cover and generator for infinite ammo... would've been something to see big_smile .

Have you looked closely to the kits? If so, you probably have noticed that HW kit has PSG(Portable Shield Generator), and sniper shots wont penetrate it. So drop a eweb to roof, and place PSG on top of it, problem solved.

Getting the people on top of the roof is the problem.  Only have 1 Flying Bike in the base and suppose a group took that already?   No more roof for you!    A way to get onto the (ALREADY RENDERED) 2nd floor controll room and an exit out to the roof would be nice.  Thats really all the copyed versions of Imp Bases need to make them playable instead of just "I got on the roof I r Camps!" fights for who has the most units on top of the point.

the bottleneck of the Ewok village

So a bottleneck at the Tree Village is wrong but a Bottleneck at the Imp Base is fine? 0_o

Make the roof of the Imp Outpost a "death zone" that kills whoever steps onto it. Problem solved.

Defending the Imperial Outpost was far more fun before people turned it into a cap-a-roof speeder bike flying contest. A death zone would solve the problem.

The issue with the imperial base- with its defences of rockcrete walls and turbolasers is that its actually harder to defend than a treehouse made of wood and twigs with no spawn point.

Sad but true big_smile .

Let's not.  A deathzone is an absolute last resort, killing players just for being in a certain location is stupid and it just pisses people off.

Re: Rebel Alliance Strategy Announcement.

We put one under the ISD hangar on hoth space and since then we've

A) had zero campers stopping the TIEs getting out
B) had zero problems with the gameplay, and
C) had zero complaints about not being able to go up there as rebel

This system has also been used in previous mods and as part of rulesets for various vanilla servers for both BF2 and 2142.  As such I'm more than a little confident that it would be both acceptable and viable in this case here.  The imps would still be able to defend the tree village, but they'd have to do it from the entrances rather than the centre.  The point of that flag is not a defence position, it's merely a flag to give the rebels a stepping stone spawnpoint from which they can continue their assault.  That's also why it's uncapped to start, and having imps spawn up there is unintended gameplay which can be easily rectified by my suggestion in page one.

I'd have thought you'd have been able to figure all of this out ty.  But if you want to redesign the map go for it.  You're on your own there.  Personally I think the map (if we fixed it so that the imps can't camp up there) would be 100%.  At worst I'd lower the points by 50 so the imps don't have to be on defence so long after the first alteration.

The map is fine, the fix I'm suggesting takes 30 seconds worth of code and no playtesting (rather than one/two months of map rebuilding from scratch and playing through it thoroughly) and has been proven to work.  And if it still leaves you with a bad taste then try as an alternate idea-expanding the flag radii so that you can capture it from the ground (there's a flag offset option I believe which would be useful in this case).  But a death bubble would be a lot more effective at achieving the goal and prevent the undesired gameplay we never wanted to have happen in the first place.
