Topic: Uh-oh.. another newbie with questions

I hope I put this in the right area.

First off, I want to say the whole reason I bought BF2142 is because of this mod. I have been playing X-wing Alliance for several years (with the updated mods... very cool) and Battlefront I & II. I saw a few screenshots for FS while looking for XWA stuff, and thought "Holy crap! What game is THIS?!!? I gotta have it!" I'm downloading the mod as I type this.

Now, on to my questions. Please note, I'm a COMPLETE NEWBIE when it comes to the Battlefield games and on-line multi-player games in general, so forgive me if I ask some "Duuuuuuuh..." type questions.

1. Is there a way to control the starfighters with a joystick? I looked through the manual for BF2142, but didn't see anything.

2. Where can I go to get "training" so that I don't get my butt totally kicked on-line? I realize "practice makes perfect" (I'm also downloading the single player mini-mod), but I mean to get tips, tricks (not cheats!) and just basic info on making online play alot more enjoyable. The very few times I've played on-line, it was quite confusing. I was just thrown into the mix and didn't have a clue as to what to do.

3. Am I getting all the files I need to play the game with no hiccups? I'm downloading the 1.2 full mod, the 1.25 patch, the FS_SP_1_2_June08, and the  FS_SP_1_2NS_June08 files. Is there something I'm missing? As I said, I'm still downloading all these files, so I haven't had the chance to install them. I just want to make sure I have all my ducks in a row before I jump in.

FYI: I'm running Vista Home Premium, so any tech advice along these lines would be helpful, too

Yes, you can use a joystick to control the starfighters.

If you want some sort of "training" then the SP minimod is probably the way to go if you want something of that sort..

You'll need the 1.5 bf2142 patch, but you probably already have that. It loks like you've got everything you'll need, is the FS_SP_1_2NS_June08 one for Northern strike or something?

First off welcome to the greatest star wars mod ever.

1: Yes you can fly starfighters with joystickets;

2: We'll, i'd say first thing you should do is go on a empty server or something and check out all the weapons, troopers are for assault, they have thermal grenades (frags) and smoke grenades, and a scan droid wich detects enemies around you and follows you.

Heavy weapons can deploy shields, can put mines, they have also have a droid but since i dont play heavy weapons so much i dont know what its good for.

Medic is can heal buddies and revive em, they also have grenades wich damage everyone around it constantly until they die, run away from it or until the grenade wears off. They also have a medic droid wich heals up buddy's around you.

Support can thrown down proton grenades wich blow up after a amount of time, they can put up proximity mines wich blows up when enemies get close to it, they can repair vehicles, they can rearm buddy's, i dont know what there droid does.

And officer is a kit basicly only for squad leaders, it has a DL-44 pistol, a deployable eweb blaster cannon, long range scan, bacta (healing) and they can rearm. They also have a respawn beacon wich is why as a squad leader it is the recommended class.

Every class has a secondary pistol, a knife and a special droid/item.

3: All you need is bf2142 patch 1.5, firststrike patch 1.2 and update 1.25 and you're ready to go.
