Personally I wouldn't have a problem going to 1.4. I don't play 'nilla 2142 at all. I do however feel that it would further decrease the already tiny base of active players for FS. Anything involving directory copying and whatnot would also cut more players and keep a segment of potential players from picking up the conversion. In fact, I think if the menu was redone to a greater extent to make it where you log in, and then -without clicking elsewhere- you see a good server list, you'd keep more players. I'm sure some people are still loading FS, not clicking on the correct tab, getting confused about servers, and saying "Ah, F-it! I'm gonna play <insert another game>" Simplify, simplify, advertise, and simplify even more. Once you have hundreds of regular players you can introduce more complexity.

EDIT - The lack of players is the biggest problem you guys face. Sure, bugs here and there turn people off, but none of that matters if a new player can't find a populated server. Would it be possible to get a group of people in different timezones (devs, FS addicts from the community/boards) to agree to play on a particular server (Shattered?) during staggered timeslots throughout the day? 30-40 people who commit to keep one server populated at all times would do wonders. Special play nights are step in that direction, but I think it's too early for that and ultimately too limited in scope. New players of a multiplayer only game need to be able to fire up FS at any time of the day or night and get into a firefight or it's a lost cause. If you have 40 maps, every weapon from the SW universe, perfect sound, etc....it won't mean a damned thing without someone to play -with-.
Love ya and just trying to help.
