Talk of 'lore accuracy' is fine, but authenticity? Come off it! Star Wars is completely made up: pretend, fantasy, science fiction... Call it what you will, it ain't real.
I honestly don't understand the "it's Star Wars and thus fiction so it can't have realism" argument. Project Reality, too, is fictional, it's still realistic and a blast to play. Does a mod or game have to take place in the real world and depict real events to have realistic features? I don't understand why.
And 'realism'... IT'S A GAME, FFS!
Sorry, but I hate this line so much. Some realistic features add to the game, some don't. Some make the game easier, some make it harder. Some improve teamwork, some detract from it. Some think realism is fun, others think arcade is fun. To yell "It's a game!" or "a game needs fun" makes it sound as if you arcade players are the only ones who can decide what is fun and that regardlessly of what us realism people say, realistic games aren't fun games, period.
Let me give you an example of a "fun" (by your definition of fun, which seems to be "easy and uncomplicated") realism feature. As it currently is in FS, you have to aim yourself at enemy fighters. In real Star Wars, your fighter locked onto enemy fighters and aimed for you (see Vader blowing up Rebel fighters in the trench and Wedge killing TIE's in the Battle of Endor). See where I'm heading with this? This is one example of realism making the game easier, not more complicated.
EDIT: The discussion is pretty much pointless anyway because the devs are sadly not going to implement this feature. Maybe after we've established a large, loyal player base some of the devs, testers, and players who prefer realism can go off and make a realism minimod based on FS, attracting the older, more realism- and teamwork-craving players. Until then, unfortunately it stays as it is.
