Re: Droid Repair Glitch

Oh - the way Woodrow made it sound, it seemed like it wasn't possible for some reason.  Now that that's cleared up - what's the issue with the inability for single player?  Isn't Battlefield: Bad Company using the same engine as BF2/BF2142?  I can understand the difficulty in making a single player version of this game/mod given that one doesn't exist - but is it really not possible?

Re: Droid Repair Glitch

There are material/damage problems, network issues, collision problems, requirements for remodeling the ships, limited capabilities, and risks of even greater crashing.  We solved most of the issues previously but not all, and even then there's only so much that can be done.

E.G. we can't do destroyable turrets like the titans because we don't have a ship interior for the players to do something else in.  If you blew up a turret on a capship then the player would be forced to just sit there looking at a screen of TV snow the rest of the game.  Similarly we have had trouble convincing the game to let us do destroyable radar units (using the regular commands it straight doesn't work and trying to jury-rig bots to shoot constant UAV from a vehicle has not yielded great success thus far).  Engines have proven the easiest to do, and we did come close to doing that for 1.2, but there were material damage assignment issues, effect triggering problems, and the aforementioned remodeling.

So not quite as simple as just welding two things together, sadly.  If we just wanted chunks of stuff blowing off without a functional aspect that alone could be done somewhat more easily.  But for what ends or purpose that'd make remodeling a ship worthwhile?  And even then it'd only be 4 or 5 chunks due to network object limitations.  But anyway, with enough time and dedication things can be achieved.  It's just rustling it up.

Bad Company uses their new game-engine, not the current one.  Something to do with snow I think, can't remember the name.

As most of you are aware at this point, there is a glitch where you can get an excess of points through damaging and repairing your own droid. We have records of who has been doing this and it will not be tolerated any longer.  If you continue to do this, your stats will be wiped.  Fair warning for all of you.

Let's be right here: you developers gave us all remote droids that damage themselves by trying to follow the player in a straight line. No one was more surprised than me to discover I got points for repairing my own ammo droid, and I reported the glitch (to Talon at Rogue Tribe because the PMs don't work for me here) within 24 hours of making and confirming the discovery.

Actually, I don't believe for one minute that "most" players were aware of this glitch – until it was posted here! It may have been somewhat wiser to contact the handful of 'offenders' individually...

Yes, it's somewhat quicker to get repair points this way than it is by repairing any of the vehicles, but (in my case) 160-odd repair points in a total of over 10,000 is hardly "an excess of points", especially when you consider that more than half of them are 'proper' other-player's-vehicle repair points. You could take away all my repair points and the 150 for the pin, and it wouldn't change my position on the leaderboard. I think I know who the biggest 'offender' is, and it wouldn't change his position, either...

My point is, it's not that big a deal.

That's not to say it doesn't need fixing, though, and the solution is simple: remove the Support class's ammo droid and there's nothing to repair...

Anyway, thanks for the fair warning. I'll make sure I only repair other players' stuff from now on!

As usual, forgive my general ignorance about the feasibiliy of these things, but how about another hotfix patch to sort out this glitch and the broken starfighter HUD?

Re: Droid Repair Glitch

people been exploiting this? Should have figured it would happen sooner or later. Yeah, its annoying when your droid starts smoking when he's following you by trying to run through a wall, and in those cases I have repaired it.
Shooting it to repair it and get the points is exploiting this though and anyone doing this should be dealt with accordingly.

Re: Droid Repair Glitch

When your trooper droid is damaged, just press g on it, and deploy it again, it will be at full health again.
