IMHO is giving the guy with the anti personal mines & timembombs a unlimited ammo supply a bigger problem than getting points for repairing your own droid.
(As long a you don't damage your droid only to repair it...)
But hey, with good admins an the battle recorder (and an activated spectator mode so other players can make screen shots...) such bug using is only a small problem.
About the engine limitations...
The grass is always greener on the other side... other engines may have other limitations that are also frustrating

Hey, in this special case suicide (and respawning) is a solution
Wierd idea:
O.k., walking around in a moving ship is a no no because the TITAN-Lag.
But whats about Stations without walking around ?
The Players spwans in a station like the gunners console.
Hey can switch between the stations with the F1 to F8 Keys like in every other Battlefield Game.
At the gunners console he can switch between two "Weapons":
First Weapon the gun, switching to gun sight (maybe by pressing the right mouse button).
Second Weapon a repair function that repairs the gun.
Similarly we have had trouble convincing the game to let us do destroyable radar units (using the regular commands it straight doesn't work and trying to jury-rig bots to shoot constant UAV from a vehicle has not yielded great success thus far).
Destroyable radar units for ships ?
Wierd idea: Ships able to launch UAV Droids that follow the ship (maybe as part of the ship ?) if the droid is destroyed, the ship must rearm it at a gallowfree or bulk freighter.
