Woodrow for President!  Or would that be Prime Minister?

Re: Officer Kit Discussion

Hm, if the UAV Droid is overpowerd...
...when please remove the homing beacons from the game !

The UAV Droid marks your position
...the Homing Beacon not

The UAV Droid travells behind you...
..the homing Beacon can be throwed toward the enemy

The UAV Droid can been shoot
...the homing beacon is as target much smaller

The problem isn't that the enemy knows more than me. The problem is that ambushes, flanking, and other such tactics become virtually useless. Me staying with a squad with UAV doesn't change that one second - if I'm laying in wait with my squad to flank or ambush an enemy, it doesn't matter if we have 0 UAV droids or 10 - they'll still see and surround us.

Yeah, and if the enemy Officer uses his Scann your Squad will also be visible to the enemy.

Hm, how about making the Officers Pistol blast realy impresive ?
A sound like the WARTH of hamsters and a real big muzzel flash / large laser bolt...

Most players don't except pistols to be such powerful.

Re: Officer Kit Discussion

Well it matters not to us really if they aren't keen on the SL, other than it's annoying when they don't set up spawn beacons properly.  I have no problems fighting on my own across the battlefields with only a pistol at my side.  It makes for a much more exciting and heroic effort and a much greater sense of accomplishment when you bust open games and lead a team of people using nothing more than a pistol.  And star-wars is about the stories of the heroes that fought in it, after all wink

And I suppose that also touches on the reality of why some of this mod is built the way it is.  For several of us devs we were sick of the standard way of playing.  The way where all the kits are strong and tough and rambo'ish.  It's simply not a challenge to some of us anymore, so we decided to focus instead on building a strong natural teamwork environment but also without forcing it down peoples' throats.  To that end the soldiers are intended to be naturally weak, so that the team that pulls together the best can win the day, rather than the team with the most twitchy players or 733t ski11z

And that's really where only challenge left for some of us lies: winning games without firing a shot.  Sure, anyone can run about and shoot others, but it's very obvious how hard it is to win a game simply by directing and encouraging a bunch of strangers solely by the power of your personality and intelligence.  The officer kit thus is designed to provide the "on the ground" tools to facilitate that.  He can spawn more players where he chooses, scan the area, heal, resupply, even provide heavy machinegun cover and defence.   That's why we only gave this chap a pistol, and why some of us find it the most important of all the kits.  The officer is the one with the most ability to win the game, and the least need to actually shoot in it.  Of course when he does shoot, the pistol we gave him really is very nice wink

We should really lock this thread...

NO! Don't lock, I need to get my word in!

I just wanna say I completely agree with everything safe-keeper(And you too Woodrow, surprisingly) said in this thread. No droids in kits, definitely get rid of the UAV droid. Teamwork first. No other officer weapons. ETC. ETC. (I still don't like pick-up kits though tongue)

I'd actually like to see it being given the Han Solo blast sound. ATM, it sounds abit like a pee shooter tongue
