Topic: FYI fix for widescreen monitors after 2142 previous installed

Recently after installing my new (thanks to tax incentive check) DELL 20" inch widescreen monitor BF 2142 stopped loading , I tried the widescreen fix to the shortcut , no luck , so I approached EA SUPPORT about the problem.

HI EA SUPPORT: Recently purchased a DELL 20" inch widescreen LCD monitor
and now my BF 2142 game refuses to load . Symptoms : Loads into black screen
after launch menu disappears, then screen goes black , flickers to desktop,
goes black again, and then the game fails to launch .
I have attempted to apply the +widescreen 1 to the shortcut - with no luck
getting that to work.  The only change that has caused
this is the addition of the DELL '20 monitor with a digital connector used
instead of analog .
I have also tried un-installing and reinstalling the game, with no changes
to the problem. ( although maybe if I delete my profile settings the next
time?)

Now the timing of the response was quite good , only took over night for my reply, but the reply was of no help , basically EA Support restated that Widescreen support was never meant for 2142 , which I took to mean "tough luck ~theres nothing we can do to make your game run , maybe you should go back to using the analog setup since that worked.    I spent $300 for digital picture quality and they expect me to sacrifice it ?

Thank you for contacting us here at Electronic Arts Technical Support. I would like to apologize for the inconvenience with the BF 2142 game.

Have you tried using the analog connection? Instead of the DVI?

The game was not developed to run widescreen LCD monitors at such resolution settings; we cannot guarantee the game will perform as it should on that setup. Basically the resolution settings is factored by the software in relation to the computers hardware overall compatibility with its parts namely; the video card, processor, memory etc. it then comes up with the resolution for the game. This will be found in the in games video options. Other than this we do not have a work around for this issue, I'm sorry.

So if I was a guy who just bought the game and never installed it, this is the help you get when it dont work? 


Kind of makes you wonder on this case.....

Well I basically again tried un-installing and re-installing the game , but
this time I DELETED THE PROFILES And such, this seems to have cleared the
problem and the game now launches fine . You might want to suggest this to
the next new guy that asks for help, instead of giving up with a THE GAME
DOES NOT SUPPORT WIDESCREEN AT THIS TIME ` canned answer.Im very
disappointed that EA didnt have any better answer for a loyal consumer ....

In my case the answer WAS TO DELETE OLD PROFILE AND SETTINGS , If it was left to EA SUPPORT I would be heading back to my retailer asking for a refund or another copy to make sure the game was not defective.  That can't be good for business.


About me : about 20 years in retail customer service , I have worked on the sales floors of MACYS , Sears , and now Staples Office Stores.  So if I come off sounding heavyhanded of EA Support it's because I expect better of the #1 Game company in the U.S.
