the New Jedi Order series is incredibly good, apart from the whole Vong-Force problem, but I found it incredibly hard to start there.  The NJO series was where I started, and it took me about 5 books just go get the jist on who everyone was, and why these new characters had relatationships with the move ones.

DUKE815: Teamwork's complicated.  I've found that ramming a Lambda with a Y-wing at full boost is most effective.
