FSDev| Woodrow wrote:Funny, that was not the incident or the map I was referring to. In the incident (which I was directly involved) you were dropping mines 2 feet from a soldier spawnpoint repeatedly, 20 feet from a flag. Every time a mine went off you'd hop forward, drop another mine, then hide round a corner again. At no point did you make any attempt to actually go and capture the flag which was a mere 3 seconds walk away. You killed 7-8 people over the space of the 45 seconds I was there (and probably more as you were there when I started spawning at that point) before I came round another side and shot you to finish it. Remember, we know where the bodies are buried.
I'm sorry Woody, but I am gonna have to leap to Rabid's defence here. He can be an opinionated moody old git at times (hmmm, I wonder who that reminds me of? ) and I don't always agree with what he has to say, but one thing I can say about him without a shadow of a doubt is that he is a firm believer in fair play, and you will not catch him camping spawnpoints or any of the various other unsavoury practices that might be considered glitching or cheating. This is a guy who flatly refuses to play Rhen Var: Research Facility solely on the basis that it gives the Rebels an unfair advantage because of the black patch bug involving Imperial Snowtrooper's skirts, a bug which only has an effect on some systems, and this is a guy you accuse of cheating? The tactic explained by him above is a valid one, you can capture that particular CP from around the back of the building and his actions reflect legitimate gameplay, I don't appreciate you making such accusations and would appreciate it if you apologised to Rabid or at least took the comment back. Thank you.

Safe-Keeper wrote:My opinion: the prox. mine is a mine. The dual purpose of most land mines, and please correct me if I'm wrong here, are to deter/slow down attack, and to invoke a medical burden on the enemy. This is how I'd like FS mines to work: they'd be visible, so that you saw them and stayed away from them. And they'd be weaker, so that instead of killing you outright, they ate a chunk of your hit points so that your squad had to stop and heal you before proceeding.
The point of any mine is to kill, maim and injure people, either in direct contact or through radial blast and fragmentation. They are used to deny ground to the enemy, protect an area or building or channel enemy forces to a predetermined kill zone. Since FS mines cant efefectively blow your leg off and leave you out of the battle while you have treatment, get a flase leg fitted and go through rehab, killing someone is really the only way to replicate this feature. Taking out a group of people in a small area is well within the ability of a mine, dependant on the type of mine and amount of explosive contained. A mine (fragmentation and blast) may well be lethal up to 25-50 meters, major injuries up to 75 to 100 and shrapnel at a radius past that. Again, these distances depend on the type of mine, how it's laid etc. As to crawling past mines (I know that was someone else not you SK), if you crawled over the top of a buried AP mine do you really think it's not going to go off? Brush past a trip wire and set a bounding fragmentation mine ago and expect no effect? Proxy mines that detect movement, heat etc WILL notice your massive bulk as a sudden localized area of inexplicable heat and go boom. Trust me.

Re: 1.3 Patch Announcement
I agree with you regarding the blast effect of a mine completely, however I feel the feature on in game mines of being able to crawl past them without detonating them is a realistic feature to be honest, and someone crawling past one doesn't crawl over the top of the thing. This feature just represents in the real world someone being cautious, detecting a mine and treading carefully around the thing, which is a perfectly realistic and reasonable feature IMO.

I wouldn't say it's realistic at all, you don't willingly enter an area full of mines hoping that going carefully will get you through, Yes, you may find yourself in a mined area and have to extract yourself, but there are procedures for that. In general you stay clear of mines, if you can sneak past them they become redundant effectively, as they no longer become something the enemy have to avoid. But, this mine thing is dragging everyone off topic. At the end of the day everyone has their own thoughts on this and as you well know I'm always going to refer to my own training etc with regards to some features of FS hardware. ROLE ON 1.3! Think I might find the time tonight to get on the servers
