Space map tips FOR ME!

To put it simple, I SUCK AT DOG FIGHTING, I tired using a mouse at first to fight, I could fly great but the mouse was not good enough to shoot down some Y-wings. I tired a joystick but it was harder to fly I a ship, but I could shoot enemies down a bit easier but I barely got any kills. Also with a joystick most of my dog fights turned into matches of who would get bored first, all that happened most of the time was pulling up forever trying to chase the other ship and that guy did the same thing so I could not shoot and in the end he would get a shot at me.

Also i can't even see any enemy ships and then out of nowhere there's a trail of red lasers heading towards me and I cant even see the ship I can shoot at and even if there is something I can see I always miss due to bad aim because I can't get the controller to aim at the ship exactly.

Does anyone know what Controller I should use to control my ship and what settings to use?

Anyone got any tips for shooting down a ship?

I just don't have any fun in space maps. sad

A full HOTAS ( hands on throttle and stick ) setup with stick , separate throttle , and rudder pedals is the best, and youll have to fly like you would in real life. You will use more muscles and get a more fulfilling experience out of it.
but for the other end of the scale, the keyboard is the noob training-wheels that will allow you to have the fast movements with minimum effort.  Flying precision and making minimum movements like you can with a stick or mouse wont happen tho.

Thanks for the advice.

Re: Space map tips.

Ok, I just tired another space match and did better but still get owned when I try to break out of a circle chasing pattern. The A-wings seem to be much more manervable than me in a Tie Defender so they just fire a few missiles and that's me dead.
