Re: Im like a star wars Dictionary. Ask me anything star wars

Seriously? Of course not, it's nothing than a bit of light-hearted fun poking at the many inconsistencies of Star Wars.

I actually read Lucas's original novelisation of 'A New Hope' before I saw the film! I'm aware of the writing of the back story, of the original idea about Mace Windu, about Darth Valorum, and of the potential Episodes VII-IX and Jacen Solo. The story evolved forwards and then backwards – it's a difficult way to do things and maintain consistency. It's still a good yarn, though.

I like Kyle Katarn! He's my kind of Jedi:
-Sensitive to the force and able to use a lightsaber – basic Jedi requirements.
-No brainwashing from an early age at an academy so he thinks for himself – as evidenced by his training as an officer candidate at the Imperial Academy and defection to the Rebel Alliance.
-Tempted by the Dark Side (aren't we all), but ultimately able to resist it
-And a fair decent bird in tow (who he kisses in the Jedi academy!).

I'd say that's much better role model than the manipulative Obi-Wan! When he said: "Your father wanted you to have this" what he meant was: "I left your father for dead in a volcano, just after I chopped his arms and legs off and watched him catch fire. I picked this up on my way out"! That "more civilised age" he talks about... that's the one with the utterly corruptible Senate that was wide open to manipulation by the Sith, yeah?

That's a thing: Sith. When did that term first appear? I don't recall any mention of Sith in the OT. The first time I remember seeing it is in the title of the expansion for Dark Forces II 'Mysteries of the Sith'. The bad guys in the original game (Jerec, et al) were referred to as 'Dark Jedi'... Is this something that made it into the movies from the game, or were the game devs aware of what was coming up in Episodes I-III? There was also a purple lightsaber in MotS (Mara Jade's) several years before Sam Jackson is supposed to have asked for one...

Kyle Katarn has always been my favorite character in the Star Wars series, I just need to scour the universe trying to find the random books where he shows up.

"The imperials think I'm somehow immortal, but I just have a good supply of power cells."

Curses, foiled again!

When did Luke have his first homosexual experience?

a) 18 y/o on a trip to Anchorhead; stumbled into the wrong type of bar

b) Obi-Wan's hutt extended action scene involving unignited lightsaber

c) The much-hushed un-PC Chewbacca bunk bed innocent on the way to Alderaan

Yeah, Sith are never mentioned in the original movies themselves, I know, but can't remember off hand where it was first mentioned, but it was way before the prequels, it may have been in a novelisation or something, I remember it was from a canon source not EU.

Okay, serious question: how does 'canon' differ from 'expanded universe'?

Id like to know as well as all the EU novelizations have been approved by George Lucas so therfore must be cannon anyways.

Re: Im like a star wars Dictionary. Ask me anything star wars

Absolute canon are the movies, and then it goes down levels depending on what the material is. If I remember rightly video games are middling to low, novels are pretty high as Lucasfilm Licensing works to keep all the continuity ticking over, but the only true canon are the movies, everything else, roleplaying games, novels, comics and video games are EU.

They actually have a chart at Lucasfilm Licensing depicting the various levels of canon, I have it somewhere so I'll have to dig it out, this depicts exactly how lore accurate or not the material is.

And all the novels have not been personally approved by George Lucas, that is what Lucasfilm Licensing is for. Do you know how many Star Wars novels are out there? That said he does obviously take an interest in this stuff as evidenced by the inclusion of so much EU material in the Prequels and OT Special Editions, the Outrider (Dash Rendar's ship from Shadows of the Empire) appearing in the skies above Mos Eisley in A New Hope, Aylaa Secura appearing in the Prequels, and her Master Quinlan Vos mentioned by name in Revenge of the Sith.
