The ultimate shotgun approach ( i know youve gone thru the basic steps already ) Is complete reinstall , but a step that usually never gets done is to edit the ea games entries out of the windows registry.
For those brave enough ( really not that bad ) follow these steps ...
Uninstall everything , then delete the directories from the file system ( the folders for ea games 2142 and mod. )
Goto [start] , and then "run"
in the run prompt, type REGEDIT anf hit enter
If you see lots of folders, and not just 5 or 6 , you will need to double click on the very top item ( labeled- my computer ) in the list to collapse the tree, so you only see the HKEY folders, unopened.
Then go into the HKEY Local Machine folder , then open the "software" folder.
Find Ea games, and/or Electronic arts folder.
delete them. ( right click then remove )
Repeat this step in the other root folder called "HKEY current user" , removing anything EA or electronic arts related as well.
Dont go jacking around in here and doing anything not specified, or you can end up reinstalling windows ( just dont be a re-tard when using the registry editor , ever.
With these registry keys gone, a re-installation is very likely to work, when it would fail before.
Certain system setups create keys that can prevent installs and stuff from working right, because the keys sometimes arent removed or even changed when installing over a bad installation, creating setup errors.
Sorry to steer you this way, but in a fail-safe capacity, this is the way to remove the most unknown variables.
so with the file folders deleted, and the registry keys removed, reinstalls have less possible ways to fail.
