Yes, exactly. Theres alot of people who want to play? None of the people I consider to be "good" in this mod want that, I don't think. They all want to concentrate on using teamplay and skill to win a map. The majority, if not all, of the players who want "all jetpack maps" really have no idea what all the concepts that make First strike so great, and better than Battlefront and Vanilla 2142, are all about.
I have to put my hand up here and admit I liked Battlefront 1, for the ps2. What let it down a lot was the lack of realism and lack of teamplay/co-ordination. I've heard before that certain weapons or vehicles are not synonymous with teamplay- weapons like sniper rifles have a notorious rep for being lone wolf guns. Speederbikes have been lamented as the ruination of the mod- they only fit 2 guys and can get pretty much anywhere. Arty tanks seemingly would be a lone wolf weapon, but all of them are in first strike and can be used for teamplay. I don't really think a map with all jetpacks (in their current form) would fit well into the mod but I would like to see the idea of a jetpack trooper evolve. It could be limited to bursts of use, given a ceiling or a finite fuel supply- issued to a squad en masse - something could be done to allow/encourage teamplay with the kit. I'm not saying throw 64 kits in a map and call it good. I am saying don't throw out a good idea because its not working right now ( it hasn't been designed to work in the map right now)

UNBELIEVABLE. That pretentious and elitist attitude is not serving First Strike or Star Wars fans well at all. Keep in mind the First Strike servers are virtually empty during the evening hours here in the USA and Battlefront 2 servers are packed with people well into the late night hours.
I think it's a good concept, myself - Battlefront I and II for the arcade people who want action and intensity, and Galactic Conquest and its "stepchild" First Strike for the more "serious" of us, those who crave teamwork and faithfulness to SW lore (not that FS can't provide bucket loads of intensity ).

I think you get quite a bit of action and intesnsity in FS. Yeah, it may not be as often as you get in SWBF, but that is to do with the playercount we have.

Re: Jetpacks for All Players
just play a game of FS single player ( available ) networked on hamachi for a humans + bots game. I set the server to have like 100 bots balancing the two teams, and I have to say it was images right of a multiplayer nightmare. Like we went around a corner and theres 75 stormtroopers in a huge wad running toward us shooting lasers , mortars, grenades , everything. THey pushed us back to our spawn, and we fought like hell to keep our last flag, Ive got video of that somewhere, I would throw proton grenades out the window blindly of a tower we were trying to defend, and scores of bodies would fly in all directions... If the videogame kiddies want a syringe full of "action" ... try this for your fix. Others who want to play a fat game on a hamachi server like this, I can arrange a public meet and host it. space maps are also quite crazy doing it this way too.

Of course you do, but it's a different kind of action. Battlefront is run-and-gun, while FS' truly spectacular moments take teamwork and co-ordination (space ships flying together against opposing fleets, E-Web positions with shields being attacked by enemy squads, etc.).

Re: Jetpacks for All Players
Adding the Jetpacks opened a can of worms. The obvious thing in my mind would be to take them out of all ground maps, then create a space map whereby there are a number of platform space stations and an ISD as a base. Imp Troops would need to jet pack over to the platforms and try and take them, balancing the Jetpacks in a way that 90% of their use is merely transportation from platform to platform (fuel amounts , replenish times etc).

Deja vu. Didn't I have a thread about this back there somewhere? "Exiting Capital Ships" I think? Someone mentioned jetpacks for space transportation in there and we expanded upon it. :P
