when a ribbon cable creates a problem by disconnect, not all conductors in the plug or ribbon are disconnected at 1st. Unless its a total disconnect from a massive bump or something, the video will still light the back light, and provide several signals for partial video... resulting in lines , discoloration , anything and everything except normal operation. Once that pronged connector unseats, its degenerative at that point. In the case of some moron working on your laptop that hasnt the requisite level of experience , they misrout the ribbon cable thru the hinge, resulting in degenerative failure of the conductor traces them selves thru abrasion.
