Topic: Crash to blue screen.

Hello, I have just installed this mod today after not playing the bf 2142 for ages (only played first two months that the game came out). Anyway remembered this mod was in production and decided to check it out.

I have enjoyed getting killed horribly on several maps but the game has crashed twice on me. Once on the first map about 5min in when i was shooting someone and second time several maps in i was running round a city and the game crashed again.

It crashs to a blue screen with no error message. I cannot kill the ap, tab to another program or use the windows starrt button to get out.

I have found this error code in the log that probably is the error code that relates to the crash. It also says its a system error.
Error code 1000008e, parameter1 c000001d, parameter2 e587da7c, parameter3 ad88c88c, parameter4 00000000.

I have a very stable computer that never crashs. This is the first crash in months and I think it is game related.

Any help to resolve the issue would be much appreciated.

P.S. system specs:
a7n8x deluxe rev 2 motherboard
x800 gto 256MB gfx card
1.5gig system memory
athlon xp 2800+ cpu
sp2504c harddrive

Re: Crash to blue screen.

Vista? X-Fi soundcard?

Did the sound effects go nuts before bluescreen?

Re: Crash to blue screen.

Those memory locations in the error message suggest hardware induced page dump.
If its not a configuration error, you may have some bad RAM  or worse.

Sorry its windows xp pro sp3. I use the on board soundcard. No the sound does not go nuts befor crashing.

Memtest says my memory is fine.

Re: Crash to blue screen.

memtest is useless for anything other than quick checksums.
That does a poor job at filling the memory locations and inducing page faults.
If you had memory on the shelf, you could do some "swap-tronics"

( if you try a new computer, and it works, its not the fault of FS ) tongue

Re: Crash to blue screen.

right click on My Computer and go to properties.
from there to the tab Advanced.
there should be something like : "Boot and recovery option". there you click on settings.

in the new window uncheck the box infront of the line with something like: "restart the computer automaticly"
then press OK and OK again.

You can now read teh full BSOD when you get one, giving you time to write it down.
cause there should be more info.

edit: you said havent played for ages.:
Manualy update PB and check if its not beeing blocked.

Re: Crash to blue screen.

I have no other memory modules to swap it between. As for trying it on other computers, they guard there computers jelously not that i'd use them. Dad has a dodgy hard drive and mum has a dodgy motherboard. Though if memtest is no good it could be the memory making it die.

Can you reccomend a better test tool?

I have the auto restart option disabled already. It crashs so thoroughly that the BSOD dousn't work properly and just gives a blue screen with no text.

I have been playing other computer intensive games like bioshock befor coming back to battlefield.

I updated the perfectly happy client from 1.10 to 1.25 which is the most recent patch from the battlefield website. I then installed first strike v1.2 then tried to apply the v1.20 to v1.30 patch to first strike but it said it needed the battlefield client patched to 1.50. I patched the battlefield client using gameshadow then applied the first strike patch. At no time was there an unsuccesfull patching or complaints from the patching programs.
