Topic: Does people still play this mod?

Hello, my name is Zache and I'm new to the forum and have never played First Strike (though watched it alot on youtube and think it looks awesome!). So I want to ask you guys if people still play this mod? Because I don't own a copie of BF2142 and am thinkin' on buying it just to be able play the mod (don't like the vanilla so...). But I don't want to arrive to a "dead party" so to say. Is First Strike's multiplayer community still alive?

I was thinking it maybe have got a bit like BFP2 path, great mod but almost no one plays it online.

And when is the singleplayer feature available? Or maybe it already is? Forgive me if don't know all features of First Strike.

I'm a huge SW fan and have been told that this is the real deal for a SW game and... well is it true? Please don't say "f'ck yes!" but tell me really, why?

Re: Does people still play this mod?

IMO FS is an ever growing community, during the week you can expect to see one or two full servers per night depending on what time you arrive but on a weekend i have seen a lot more activity and more and more each week, the other weekend there was a full 40 player server i believe and ppl still trying to get in so my answer would be yes, FS is still alive and growing!

Yes, First Strikes community is still alive, and thriving.  The most popular time is in the evenings, roughly around 7PM GMT.  It has been a quiet week this week however.

Try This thread.  There is a singleplayer "mini-mod" located there.

I'd love to answer that, but it would take a long time for me to explain, time which I am short of right now.  I'm sure someone else will happily tell you what makes First Strike so amazing.

OK, since you're looking at actually spending money just to get the mod, I'll try to elaborate with a few points on FS:

- It strives to be very true to the movies, and is far more accurate and authentic than most retail SW games, which tend to focus more on including as much content as possible, and don't really spend time on research. As far as I know, an enormous amount of work went into getting FS as accurate as possible.

- It's fairly arcade-based, though no Battlefront 3, and rewards teamwork very generously, I dare say quite a bit more than BF2 and BF2142. If you're an arcade player, though (like most of our community), you can still play and enjoy it.

- It's made up of part space, part planetary combat. The gameplay and vehicle loadout of the huge space maps (a couple are 8x8 kilometers) are based on the X-Wing series of games and revolve mostly around starfighters (think BF1942's Battle of Brtain), with only one of them focusing on capital ships (this map plays like BF1942's Coral Sea, except both sides get a fleet of mobile ships, not a stationary carrier). Staying together is required to make space maps fun and intense - if everyone go lone wolf, they become "random" and frankly pretty boring.

- It has a history of CTD's and server crashes as well as bugs, but these have mostly been sorted out.

- Graphics-wise, expect a high standard that'll demand a tiny bit more of your computer than vanilla BF2142.

- It has new game modes (regular Conquest is done on only one map), so make sure to always read the Game Mode description in loading screens as well as the Briefing. Much has been added and a couple of things have been removed (such as commander abilities, but those may be replaced with new and exciting ones, I'm not sure yet), but I dare say that overall it's a deeper experience than vanilla. A bit tricky to get into, but experiment around and you'll learn soon enough.

Overall, it's a very nice mod, with a small-but-growing community (one to two servers fill up every day) and something I feel you should give a try. After all, BF2142 doesn't really cost that much.

EDIT: Oh, and there are no Jedi. Nor will there ever be, most likely.

Hi Hokos! I'm a huge starwars fan too- been playing starwars games since i owned a PC. Have you ever played a starears game, enjoyed it but felt it was lacking?  Jedi knight was an awesome game series... but in every level you walked through cool environments and got to see cool vehicles and starfighters, but not use them.

JKII let you drive a ATST for a while but it was a bit silly. Multiplayer was always fun too but it never felt like you were part of a team or anything.

I played X Wing Alliance for ages online and had lost of fun in RSF with Red squad. Xwing alliance was limited in the amount of players you could get online before the game would LAG like crazy. The combat was ok but it got a bit sameish after a while.

AAAAAaaanyway.

First strike puts you in the galactic civil war in a way you've never been there before. It is what Battlefront should have been. You are a common soldier in the Rebel alliance or Empire and you have access to authentic weapons and equipment. You have no lightsaber, no force powers to bail you out this time!!
There is an arsenal of vehicles and aircraft in the game that handle like you would expect them to. They are powerful and used well they can turn the tide.
But the most dangerous weapon you have at your disposal is the guy next to you- your team mate. (Especially if that team mate happens to be me... but i digress.)
You communicate and work together in squads. You work as a team in squads.

Thats it and its amazing. I've played the other Battlefield games and lost of SW games and no-where have I seen the sheer level of co-operation.

Try it and you won't be disappointed- I guarantee.

everything else is amazing, the graphics , equipment and maps are great- but I'm here for the teamwork. Well, I'm actually here for space, but I stayed for the teamwork.

Go out and buy the hell out of t2142- my clan mate picked up a copy for 9 dollars.

I'll see you on the battlefield.

Re: Does people still play this mod?

What you will find here, is the average player is not quite the same breed of idiot player you see en masse with other games.
Maybe its because getting it working takes effort sometimes, and that in itself is a Tard-filter.
I like to beleive that most that play this mod are intelligent, and as you see above, there are many classy people of all ages who are willing to help people.
