I remembeer I was playing a game of Battle of Ryloth, and at one outpost, a group of imperials were trying to land their lander. Of course, they didn't know how to do ity very werll, and ended up landing it on its side.

Ha! A Lambda shuttle landing awry! Wish I'd been there to see that. smile

Seriously , did the devs include that thing for comedy value... its the Jar-Jar of vehicles.

It's easy to fly, just requires patience and common sense. I remember many times watching people jump in the choppers on BF2 and crash them straight away. Its the same here, people just dont listen to advice.

My advice...

HOVER to take off and land.
PRACTICE in SP. Create a local server, load Ryloth and play with the shuttle. So there's no bots, your practicing using the shuttle so who needs em.
Once you can do loops, spins and low level in the shuttle your good to go. My favourite is dusting over the floor a couple feet chasing speeders. Get it right and slow enough you can drop para stormies if a squad is willing to play tongue

Yeah, after practising quite a bit, I can now take off horizontally without flipping... great when under heavy fire and I need to get out of their fast

Indeed, very simple.

1. Go to designated supply zone.
2. Request Pilot kit via Commo-rose.
3. If you fulfill the game requirements for a Pilot kit, take it and go to shuttle.
4. Get into pilot's seat. You have to stand in the cockpit to do this.
5. Hit W for 10 seconds to get the engine running, then reverse five seconds to allow the cooling system to compensate for the sudden rise in temperature. Flip the P-Eng and S-Eng switches, unlock and flip the MAIN PWR switch, and enable EMERGENCY BATT by pressing the ALT PWR button on your left-hand side.
6. Wait 30 seconds for the engine to warm up.
7. Be careful to give the engine some thrust when the RPM reaches about 80-100%, or the engine will over-torque, causing damage. Should fire occur, hit the EXTINGUISH button and request help from a Support player.
8. Request take-off clearance from the ATC system via commo-rose (if you haven't printed the Radio Codes and Radio Frequency reference cards, this might be a little tricky wink ).
8. Take off by gently adding reverse throttle.
9. Once you're in the air, program the nav-computer (you at least downloaded and printed the four Navigation reference sheets and the minimaps, right?) and head for Waypoint 1.
10. You're on your way! Remember to open the wings for stability or you'll tumble to your death!

Seriously, though, patience is key. Be careful when taking off, careful when cruising, and careful when landing and you'll do fine. And don't land it smack in the middle of a CP, if you have a full load of passengers it's often smarter to simply place it a distance away, unload your troops, and take off.

Oh, and it's imperative you have a fighter escort. Ryloth really has far too many fighters for the shuttle to be there and their main purpose in life seems to be to shoot down lambdas. You'll need TIEs on your own very badly.

Re: Funniest First Strike moments

Its all about wingtip clearance , the single most challenging thing about that craft. If you get near the ground retract the wings , even if its halfway.
