Topic: We need some real artillery.

Now, I know this has been said before and was answered with: But we allready have the mortar. (I also said this) But I have since changed my mind, think about it, what well equiped army has tanks and in the empires case walkers, but not considerable artillery support? You may say they were never seen in the movies but neither were alot of things.

My idea is for a stationary or mobile artillery gun that can fire over a high arc and take out heavily entreched positions EFFECTIVELY Manned by one person (The commander if stationary) or a crew if possible. Its drawbacks should be slow speed, difficulty over rough terrain and high vulnerability to aircraft. I think it would be cool if the imperial variant fired a cluster bomb. Good against enemies over a wide area but not fantastic at hitting precise targets. Heres a work of art I whipped up to illustrate.

The Rebel equal could be very similar but with a precise more rapid firing shot instead of the cluster bomb.

In my opinion this would be a great addition to Certain maps obviously they would suck on endor or entha but great on wide open maps. I also would not give each team more than two for obvious reasons. So.... I hope you like this idea and constructive criticisim is welcome.

I think we should concentrate on fixing the current arties first.  3 or 4 patches, and the projectiles are STILL invisible to other players than the driver.

Re: We need some real artillery.

I think artillery that you can actually aim effectively at a target would be a good addition.  But would it be like the rocket launcher type setup when your shooting at aircraft?   So you would still have to know the general direction of the enemy team?  Or maybe you could have it  so you can fire it on your own and you could accept artillery request from squad leaders on your map, but then I don't know if the gun would aim it's self or if you would do it.  Would this artillery be like a  short range  one that you aim at enemy's you see?  Then you might possibly get a lock-on  signal or something. Or we could think up something else.  There are a lot of questions and problem's we would need to over come and still make it balanced and enjoyable. And Gwynzer is right about still needing to fix the current artillery.

Re: We need some real artillery.

Fix the current mortar and people would actually use it. When I started playing it took ages to even realize there was mortar in the game 'cause you couldn't see the shots and it wasn't exactly obvious how to shoot it (right click in the driver's seat.)

Re: We need some real artillery.

Driving an artillery vehicle is possibly the least action packed thing you could do. That's why in the BF series they distributed that ability to the commander, not a vehicle.

The current armoured freerunner with mortar is a nice way to get some kills but its difficult to judge how far your shots have gone out of Line Of Sight (LOS) - but if you could effectively hide out of LOS and bombard a position with impunity then its not helping the mod much. Its not necessarily a teamwork vehicle. ( i know the 'spotting magnoculars help, but are very rarely utilized)

What im talking about is an artillery vehicle similar to the 1942 ones. But maybe you make the targetting system easier. I never found them boring.
