Pam if i've done anything in the past to offend you then I apologise, but some of your comments are rather ill thought out and often seem antagonistic. If i've posted anything that you feel is inappropriate please let me know. I would hate to think you're not going to post on the forums or play FS over something I may have done or said. That said I do reserve the right to defend myself on any comments made towards me that I feel are unjust or malicious.

If I had said something like that I would feel as if I had ostracized myself from the FS community...

Re: VISTA USERS TURN OFF UAC

Ok back to topic 8]

FS keeped on crashing during the game with my UAC turned on...

so i decided to give it a try BUT didnt want to shut down the secruity system (UAC) which -so far- didnt cause any problems.

So i goggled a bit and found amongst many posts and tools a nice work around to turn off UAC for a specific service which uses the help of an official microsoft tool called "Microsoft Application Compatibility Toolkit 5.0"....*cough*...well, that shouldnt be too bad big_smile

anyways.....i found a very good description how to disable UAC for FirstStrike, which isnt very difficult and veeeeeeeery helpful 8)

BUT....

its in german ;P

www.vs-support.com/tipps_tricks/uac.htm

in summary all you have to do is to install the tool, create a new database for an application (FirstStrike.exe), click "none" when asked for compability modi and check "run as invoker"

then SAVE the database, name it and place the file wherever you prefer

the last you have to do then is to tell windows that there is a new database by opening DOS-window

and  the command SDBINST followed by a gap and then the path to your database you just created

i saved my database (FSfix_UACoff.sdb) in the Battlefield2142 root folder so f.ex. my command line is

SDBINST C:\Spielhalle\bf2142\FSfix_UACoff.sdb

since then FS didnt crash anymore and finally i can enjoy FS again smile

Re: VISTA USERS TURN OFF UAC

Nice find Daf, a good tip for those who don't want to turn off UAC. I'll add it to the stickied thread. But it's just like Microsoft to make something that should be a simple 10 second job into that wink

Re: VISTA USERS TURN OFF UAC

Dude, thats fricking awesome, I just wish I understood it! I dont mean your english, I mean its all in geek to me! If you could get someone to get that in an easy to understand way then we should get it pinned.

mod edit: holy dang fooey batman! did you just run that through babelfish? not only was Daf's short instructions clear enough, but if you wanted to give more information in english how about a 10 second google search, which would have turned up sites like THIS, THIS and THIS
