Well the game is now being developed by Rebellion Development which made Star Wars Battlefront Renegade Squadron. This can either a good thing or a bad thing depending on your point of view because Renegade got 8.0 from Gamespot.com which isn't bad at all but it isn't exactly earthshattering. And actually the FR team went on to make Timesplitters 1 & 2 after Goldeneye which were both received very well IIRC. It's just such a shame they had to be locked up during the development of this game. They said that the game has been in development for 2 years so far and the gameplay footage makes it seems that it's 80% done, so hopefully Rebellion can't do more harm than good.
That being said even with the crummy quality of the video the graphics look amazing, on the level of Call of Duty: World at War perhaps. That was one of my major complains of Battlefront II, since it didn't take the advantage of having good eye appealing graphics. The movement also seems much more fluid. The engine itself seems superb and I assume the physics will be outstanding as well. Also, the fact that you can go from planetery battles to space battles without changing levels is a commendable implementation since that's what they should have done in Battlefront II. The ship interiors themselves also look much more planned out and extensive as opposed to the 4 room interiors of Battlefront II. All in all I can't wait for this game. I just hope they fixed the lightsaber combat to make it more like Jedi Academy. Then the game will be perfect. The only thing that can go wrong now is if Rebellion reverses direction and downgrades the quality of the game, which hopefully I hope they won't and basically can't do because the game looks like it's almost finished anyway.
I think it'll definitely be out by the end of this year, probably Fall 2009. But damn Rebellion, damn them to hell if they mess this up and take this project down the drain. I wish I could tell if they are a good team or not because besides Renegade Squadron and The Simpsons game they really haven't had any notable releases and they seem more like a company who likes to make games for handhelds anyway.
