Topic: Just got done downloading 1.4...

....and when i go to launch, a window pops up saying "firststrike.exe has stopped working". what's this about? can anyone help me fix this?

-Did you download the full 1.4 installer or the incremental update
-Your Battlefield 2142 version [ex 1.25, 1.5]
-Is it normal, deluxe or the digital download version?
-Your operating system
-If Vista, is UAC turned off?
-Are you running the program with administrating rights
-Your graphics card [ex Nvidia GeForce 8800GT]

i don't know what you mean? are you saying how i downlaoded bf2142? if so i used ea downloader

If I understand correctly, the Launcher crashes after you try to start the game?
What is the version of your launcher? Run the launcher, and choose Help>About. It should be 0.0.8.0.

Make sure that you run the program as administrator (right click - run as administrator), and are logged in with an administrator account. I'd recommend turning off User Account Control if you're using your computer primarily for gaming, although I've managed to get FS running fine on Vista32 with UAC on.

If that doesn't work, and if you have the time, I'd recommend to try a reinstall. It seems to usually fix things somehow.
