I never saw any personal shields in the Galactic Civil War movies. They decided to just barrow that from Vanilla 2142. Can you say HYPOCRISY?
Really Duke? So, your telling me that these advanced fighters, capable of flying in atmosphere and space, leaving a planets gravitational pull and reaching orbit...relied on a PARACHUTE to save their pilots? Not seeing how useful a parachute is in space...
Majority of fighters did have an ejector seat or ejectable cockpit, but this would be only of benefit if the pilot utilised a fully enclosed environmental suit, like the TIE pilots. Also, based on modern ejection seats and pilots equipment, this woul still mean that any parachute would be fitted to an area of the seat called the headbox.
As the seat ejects (within seconds of pulling the handle) explosives fire above the pilots head, shattering the cokpit/canopy, or fire a set of detbolts which completely free the canopy from the ship. The seat begins to rise on a piston, again fired by explosives, before a set of rockets fire to launch the seat even ffaster and further from the craft. As the seat tears from the ship, vital connections and life support systems are severed, built in to a seat is a small oxygen supply, this begins to feed to the pilot if he is above a certain height, controlled by a sealed barometric system. A drogue is fired from the seat to bring it under some kind of control, due to fast flowing airflow the seat will be swinging and spinning. After the drogue has stabilised the seat a little, the main chute is fired. Again, these are controlled by barometric systems.
So..parachutes in space, not going to happen. Parachutes on infantry maps? No soldier I know of enters a city with a parachute as his standard kit. Unless of course he happens to be jumping from a plane to get in to the city.
As for shields, check the gungan shield. Thats a personal shield, just on a bigger level, so the tech existed. Droideka's deployed small personal shields as well. Just in case you need to reaquaint yourself, try reading up on them:
