Don't discard what works. Just improve upon it.

Ok I see your point. It's just that these improvements are so small.

With that level of technology, it's going to be hard to improve.   Science has limits, and the closer you get to those limits the harder things become to get closer.

That's exactly it. I look at that trailer (and I stopped after the Bounty Hunter blew the bridge), and know EXACTLY what that game is going to be like. Hundreds of Jedi running around with their little glow sticks like a rave party. The only thing lacking is the ecstasy pills.

I'm sick and tired of Jedi I've said it before and I'll say it again. I want an MMO that REALLY explores the Galactic Civil War in all its glory... not this raver nonsense.

This game is doomed to failure with anyone who DOESN'T want to be a Jedi right off the bat. They'll pull in all the bandwagoneers that have clutched onto the movies and the Clone Wars tv show and give them the flashy eye candy they want. It'll be like KOTOR for multiplayer. But it wont be Star Wars. No matter how many titles you attach to it, it wont be the real story.

From everything I've read (and I've been following the game since last year), nothing excites me about it. They're going to have an unbalanced mess of glow sticks and only a small handful of people using the other professions. Crafting, entertaining... it's all in the past. We'll never see it in this game so you'll never get the social players into it.

It just reminds me of everything we've seen before and nothing new or innovative. I call it, "The Same Old Republic" as it just doesn't stand out to me. You can make a great looking CG trailer... but it doesn't mean a thing to me when the game is going to be unbalanced.

Eh... like I said on another forum... I plan to try it out for as long as my free time lasts (hopefully with every MMO, you get the first month free). But that's it. I want to say I was one of the first people in and out of that mess when it goes upside down in the future.

Re: SWTOR's new E3 trailer

@ TK.
I think (not having played SWG) that if Jedi exist in a game, most people will want to be one.  I don't have a problem with what they're doing here- everyone gets there shot to grab a lightsabre.

Personally I don't feel MMOs capture starwars in any meaningful way other than sandbox exploring. I don't like MMO combat full stop-  if I hit someone with a lightsabre or burst of blasterfire, I expect them to die.

What i'd like to see is a persistent universe, like an mmo that operates like an FPS- jedi knight 2 for example. That game was balanced- didn't matter how skilled a jedi was, shoot him in the back and he was dead.

You fail on too many levels...

First off, You say you know EXACTLY how it will turn out without even recongizing the credibility of Bioware or explain in detail

Then you ramble on about the jedi and how it will be a glow stick fest but you do not know that a.you have the option to go sp b.bioware has even stated they are working around the clock to avoid the situation of the jedi plague c. Irrelevant the GCW did not occur at this time

Oh and PLEASE tell me you are not one of those GCW elitist who honestly believe in the EVERY JEDI RUINED SWG EXCEPT Vader roll (he is a jedi you know *looks @ your sig*

Yes I do know exactly how it's going to turn out... I saw exactly what happened to SWG when they made Jedi a prominent class and EVERYONE chose it. Everyone played it and no one put any effort into the other classes (devs or players).

Bioware's credibility goes only so far. They've never tackled a Star Wars MMO before. They've done well with singleplayer games, but that's IT. So they surely do provide very polished end material... but they've never done this before.

I know what Bioware has said... and I still know exactly what's going to happen. This isn't going to turn out to be one of those MMO's that everyone has been waiting for (since the crash and burn of SWG). Star Wars fans are going to be rudely awakened come release. I'm betting down on that comment. There's NO WAY you can even out an MMO with eight or more classes, if the majority of players only go for Jedi/Sith. It's just not going to happen.

I've said it before...

Anyhow... I'm one of those purist Star Wars fans in that anything before the new three movies IS Star Wars and anything afterwards is garbage. tongue I can't stand the new movies, books, and games. Nothing irritates me more than Jedi.

I wont say that having Jedi other than Vader in the universe ruined the saga (because of course there was Luke, Leia, Obi Wan, and Palpatine in the movies too). I will say that the continued focus on the Clone Wars, and The (Same) Old Republic is getting old. I think because of those damned movies (and the tv shows like Clone Wars), games like SWG suffered where it was doing perfectly fine before everyone wanted to be a Jedi. Now the bandwagoneers all want their glow sticks in every Star Wars games they played. Hell, look on this forum where someone asked for the Lightsaber in the mod.

I think we're going to see a game where you're either in (as a Jedi/Sith) or you're out. Those that are out will be such a small voice that the Dev's wont hear them and the balance will suffer. Unless you limit the number of Jedi (because let's be frank if you know anything about the Old Republic days, you know they still weren't all Jedi/Sith), or unless you make them as weak as everyone else... you're going to have balance issues. But you're doomed if you make an Old Republic game and limit the Jedi or make them not as powerful. The glowsticks will go in an uproar, spam their forums, and light Biowares office on fire.

As for...

I'd very much be interested in something like that. As long as you take away the invincibility of the Jedi, then I don't care how many of them there are. In every game, they are always the strongest (cut through anything, deflect everything, etc). Make a world that allows me to quickly dispatch them based on my FPS skills and I'd be happy. I'd prefer that the time period be either the Galactic Civil War on up to the NJO period (just before the invasion).
