Topic: First Strike on Steam?

So I was thinking... what would it take to get this mod added to the Steam client? There's some fairly popular mods on there that I think once added, people flock to to try. Of course some people will move on, but some are likely to stick with it.

It might give this community a boost of sorts (which can't hurt). With only a half dozen prominent clans/guilds/organizations... it might bring in a few more. I had heard about this mod a long time ago by chance (searching ModDB). But I'd bet there's plenty of people that haven't heard of it.

2142 isn't supported by steam, there is bugger all chance of getting us supported by steam if the game we need to play isn't on it.  It would take EA and Valve agreeing to put 2142 onto Steam, before even considering trying to get our mod on it.

If you want to get the Steam Overlay while in First Strike (I do this), do the following:

Open your game's tab, click "Add Non-Steam Game".  Navigate to your 2142 install folder and select "FirstStrike.exe".  FS is now on your games list, however it will launch Vanilla 2142, so right click the game, click Properties, and under target add this to the END of the line, outside the quotation marks: +modPath mods/FirstStrike

I have 2142 Deluxe edition, so in the Target box, it looks like this for me:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts\Battlefield 2142 Deluxe Edition\FirstStrike.exe" +modPath mods/FirstStrike


I've been kicked from servers sometimes because of it, but most of the time it works.  If an update is ever released for FS, you will have to run from the launcher to get it.

DUKE815: Teamwork's complicated.  I've found that ramming a Lambda with a Y-wing at full boost is most effective.

Yeah no, I don't want it on Steam to run it... but to get it out to the masses. I think the community on Steam is so large that adding it to the clients mod section would add a lot of new players.

But if that's not possible... then so be it. tongue

I have only seen source games/mods on steam. EG. Age of Chivalry.
