Topic: need Microphone Help

Formatted my computer, now my mic won;t work properly.

When i go to set it up in controlpanel/sound devices/voice/test hardware I speak and it reverberates, growing and grwoiing uotil its just a blare of static.

Fiddling with the volume sliders  I can't get a situation where my voice is audible and doesnt reverb.

2142 Voip doesnt detect the input at all.

I've tried a diff headset so its not the mic itself.
I tried the latest realtek HD audio drivers as well as the ones on the disc that came with my Motherboard.

Ideas?

Re: need Microphone Help

Try reinstalling the 2142 voip program and see if that doesn't work

I had the same problem once and that did the trick for me  wink (been awhile since then but could work)

Re: need Microphone Help

Hit the mute option for the mic in control panel  also check to see if mic boost is on

Re: need Microphone Help

aw pants, yes I remember this one, just trying to remember the workaround...

I think it has something to do with stereo mixing, turn it off and see if that helps. Since I swapped my headset to a usb one I've not run in to the problem again. I'll try to get on to an XP system and find the right settings and post again.

Re: need Microphone Help

One thing: Ignore the 2142 VOIP application.  It doesn't detect for alot of people, even though the mic may still work ingame.

You are correct sir.

The answer is to mute stereo mix in the recording volume control- as your mic doesn't record in stereo.

Re: need Microphone Help

Glad to be of assistance smile Incidentally, I found the best solution was buying a USB headset. Admittedly I no longer sound like a stormtrooper (according to Gwyn) but at least I dont have that annoying problem!
