The shaders have been totally removed from FS, so it uses 2142 shaders again. They aren't causing any problems anymore because they were removed from the equation entirely. Feedback didn't fall on deaf ears, you just assume it does.

Re: So...

They do cause problem, actually.  Do some research.

Shaders are in FS, They were not totally removed. They get installed with the launcher (thats the problem), And got "removed" later.  The way they got removed doesn't always work.  Shaders may be removed for FS, yes, thats true, however the fact the FS shaders went in *at all* still buggers up a fair amount of people's Vanilla install, stopping them playing.  Corrupting vanilla is the WORST thing a mod can do.  It causes people to have to re-install vanilla and not look at FS again.  Manypeople that visit this forum don't play regular BF2142 often, if at all.  But there are people who do, and it's these people who end up not playing FS

Re: So...

In that case, I believe it would be best to eliminate the launcher all together.  Considering the infrequent and small number of updates, the launcher seems to be causing more problems than its worth.

Re: So...

I never have problems with it.

Re: So...

The launcher can't be eliminated, right now. Thats why I haven't made such a big fuss about it on the forums.

Servers right now need the server stuff to use FS. it hijacks the 2142 files meaning you can't simply run FS as a 2142 mod.  In order to connect to an FS server, you need to be using the FS launcher.   I suppose you could run firststrike.exe without the launcher coming into it, but some problems may (<- Thats just suspicion, i could very well be wrong but it's a logical guess) not fully be solved by removing the launcher.

Infact, it's due to how the launcher updates (and sometimes plays with shaders) which is the problem.  You need to updates to play the latest version of updates. With no easy way to install builds manually, removing the launcher would screw up new players, or current players that need to reinstall. sad

Re: So...

So that would explain why my vanilla doesn't work. I've just found my 2142 cd so I'm getting back into FS. However, since the servers are empty most of the time, I like to play Vanilla. Kept getting a modified content error after installing FS. Spent yesterday fixing it, it worked, installed FS and it broke again... really annoying.

Re: So...

The usual solution to this problem is the following:

1. Click on the First Strike icon, then the launcher pops up.

2. Next, click the red "x" box to close the launcher.

3. Finally, click on the vanilla 2142 icon to start vanilla.

Works every time for me.  Does this solve your problem?
