hello, the first strike launcher doesn't recognize my bf2142 cd, since update v 1013, vanilla works fine

pls help

ok i now have found the solution (thanks to Gwyn) - THE MOST IRRATIONAL AND STUPID solution i had ever to maintain - there has to exist the bad company trailer video in the bf2142 deluxe directory - i have deleted it before and now i recreated it and it helps!

FSDev please tell us - what does bad company have to do with first strike??? big_smile smile

I'm no FS dev, but I can tell you that:

There isn't any difference in the registry between "Normal" 2142 and "Deluxe" 2142.  There are no different files installed with deluxe edition to normal 2142 either.  HOWEVER, the bf2142.exe for 2142 and 2142 deluxe (and EA:DM) is different, and the FS launcher creates a "FirstStrike.exe" based on what version of 2142 you are using.

After a big search through a ton of shite, we found that the BFBC.wav was not present in the regular 2142 install, but was packed with 2142 deluxe: If the launcher detects BFBC.wav then thinks you are on deluxe.  If you delete the file it thinks you are using regular.


So yeah, a little history there.

i have regular 2142 with nothern strike addon (not to be confused with deluxe edition). i have no trace of any file name battlefield bad company on my computer. I have tried uninstalling fs mod and the launcher and attempted a reinstall, fs launcher automatcially patched itself to .082, tried running without update, retail disc physically spins in dvd drive after 2142 logo and gives no cd error, and patched to 413 still the same error. any way of fixing it? or am I wasting my time trying to get it to work.

It is worth the install mate, trust me. I can never understand why people have problems since I have never encountered any insall issues.

Anyways, if you could let us know more such as what OS you're on, if 2142 works alright, if it is fully patched (to 1.5). patched to 413? I'm not sure what that is..unless you mean FS v1.4 patch 1013?

Have you tried reintalling the autopatcher/launcher? Oh..and have you set preferences? Click file then settings or summat from the launchers front window(this really isnt difficult to find tbh) and in the preferences area enter +widescreen 1 if you have a widescreen monitor, or for a regular monitor with a high native resolution add +szx 1280 +szy 1024 (replacing the numbers with your own resolution. It does say this in the front window of the launcher, but many people overlook it.
