Re: Public Relations/Advertising GROUP

If it gets the point across then hell YEAH!

As far as this is concerned, good ideas all round. However my PR role is much diminished of late due to the ammount of free time I have available to work on First Strike. I used to have much more time on my hands that left me free to post news and other promotional articles, but now though I'll contribute, I think someone else with more free time to dedicate to this important task should take up the mantle of leader of this bold new group.

Re: Public Relations/Advertising GROUP

Tbh, considering the people that would be interested in this, it can get off mostly on it's new steam, doesn't need someone to tell people what to do. There will be only the occasion pokign and prodding to see what people are up to.  It just needs a leader defined so that person can be given powers to edit certain threads on these forums (there are some very old stickies still needing updated which can be a side project for this group - regular players are the best people to be involved in their updating), and someone who can post up news articles on the front page.  I know you have at least one of these powers, Talon, and unsure if you have forum mod or not, but it wouldn't be a risky move to give you those powers.  This, coupled with your previous role in PR, makes you perfect for the job.

Re: Public Relations/Advertising GROUP

I guess I could coordinate and delegate, that wouldn't be a problem. Also a good thing for this type of endeavour is a unified vision of what the overall approach should be in regards to advertising First Strike, so that the campaign becomes a solid cohesive whole rather than lots of disparate parts that make little sense when viewed together.

Re: Public Relations/Advertising GROUP

Easy. It should consist of a group of six people, headed by one dev (in this case you!) while the other five may be anyone from anywhere within the FS community. Said group shall be given set roles defined by the 'leader' such as monitoring of stickies, creating news posts, video uploads and external PR such as moddb updates and liasing with other sites and/or companies. I further propose the group sets up some means of communication either by a forum channel here or an IRC channel (whichever more members of the group are likely to use)

I suggest the group aims to achieve the following deadlines:

Fortnightly newspost (to be promulgated on this site and others, be it new models/updates, community interest articles such as dev/mapper/tester interviews or community game reports)

Monthly wallpaper (come on..I'd love some new desktops!)

Create a new video every two months.

Further tasks can be set as required, but those deadlines would achieve added interest and encourage people to the site in the first place. Along with wallpapers I would also consider (if possible) the creation of other downloadable material, be it MP3 (eg ringtones of loading music or other soundbites), avatars etc.

Not anyone: Active players.  Not testers who play once a month or people that devs are "friends" with.  People who play almost daily andtry to make it to every event they can, people who perferably also socialise with the FS public outside of the game and/or forums too.  When representing and trying to advertise the mod, we want people who know exactly how things are going ingame, as well as in the community.  I don't respect or listen to anyone who comes trying to tell me about a game they don't play themselves.  I don't expect others do either.

These are all things which should be brougt up by the Media Team.  This groups primary role we be getting the word out, it is the media teams job to create things like above.  Of course, this group coule be reponsible for the distribution of the media teams work, but wasting time getting sidetracked while creating it serves no purpose.

And aye, Chaos, thats a good idea, that really is the kind of thing that we need smile
