Topic: Lambda Shuttle controls

The Ryloth round last CG wasn't really fun in my opinion, not only because of the map's design but also because of 'newbies' accidentally crashing the Lambda Shuttles. Additional it's very annoying when you have a joystick and forgot to pull down the throttle control(!) and your lambda shuttle goes kamikaze without you being able to do anything about it because it's already too late... BUT there are ways to fix this.

The main problem is that the Lambda Shuttle accelerates from 0 to 100 in less than 1 second but there are also ways to prevent newbies from going kamikaze.

Solutions I can think of:

  • Slow down the acceleration

  • Add a warm up time. It begins when you seat the pilot position. During this time you can't move the Lambda. Once it's over the Lambda is ready to go.

  • Spawning on the lambda should automatically place you in one of the passenger seats, not the pilot seat. If not possible (...) you could perhaps change the pilot seat to the F8 seat and not F1 as it is now.

Re: Lambda Shuttle controls

I agree, should be a simple fix.

Yup.

Re: Lambda Shuttle controls

Agree with all three. Warmup time doesn't have to be PR's 30 seconds, just enough for the player to watch the throttle indicator leap to max and realize that he needs to get his foot off of the accelerator. 2-3 seconds should do the trick.

And yes, now that you mention it, it is ridiculous how fast the Lambda goes from 0 to 100 compared to the other air vehicles in the mod. Currently, the best way to get it off of the ground is to make a rolling start, which is fun, but not very accurate lore-wise.

Let me add a little correction to #2, though - don't put players in a passenger seat, put them in a gunner's seat, preferably the one handling the aft-mounted twin turret. Far more convenient, and keeps the spawn points clear (I believe players spawning into Lambdas end up in passenger seats).

Re: Lambda Shuttle controls

Indeed. Not sure about changing the pilot to another slot than F1 though thinking about it. Just having it be that you first spawn in another slot other than that one should be sufficent.

Have you seen the airspeder? That not only goes from 0-100 in 0.5 seconds, it goes from 100-0 in 0.5 seconds... lambdas take AGES to slow down.

And everyone knows the best way to take of a lambda is horizontally... just ask kreny big_smile

These are mostly easy fixes, I suppose I could play around with some numbers. . .

Re: Lambda Shuttle controls

Wait wait wait. I like the acceleration. It makes taking off easier- just VTOL a little, lean her back and punch full forward with boost.

A sluggish reaction to throttle change will make lambda accidents much harder to recover from- if you snag a wing and you start tilting fwd, you often have split seconds to take corrective action before you are nose first in the dirt, teamkilling an entire squad.

When you throttle up the air transports/ helijets in 2142 they lift up and Forward, not just forward. S is VTOL.
Could we have that?
