If you want bang for buck, I'd still suggest a 4850. I still can't fault this card for the price, but with the new series coming out prices could start tumbling which leaves you a choice...wait and see how far they drop or buy now? If they get cheap enough then as previously said a 4870 is definitely the way forward.

If you want something cheaper then the 4830 and 4670 have also had very good reviews in their respective price ranges.

Well it will of course be for gaming... FS and beyond hopefully.

The budget for the entire PC is about $600.

I am salvaging only a few parts from my last PC:

650w PSU
1TB HDD
2 120mm Fans
DVD Drive

Processor, Mobo, and GPU.

The processor/mobo combo I was thinking of getting has actually expired, so I don't know what to get now. So I guess I am back a few steps since I have little to no idea how to find what components fit.

I really would like a quadcore processor, though I don't know how to pick them XD

Ram choice..meh. Depends what CPU you get and if it supports dual or triple channel. Four sticks? Why not 2x2gb sticks. Much better choice as if your mobo only has 2 dimm slots you're safe, if it has more you can easily slot in more 2gb sticks to upgrade rather than swapping all four.

Processor speed isn't as important now. Don't be sucked in to thinking a dual core 2Ghz is slow, compared to the 4Ghz P4 of earlier years a 2Ghz C2D will stomp all over it and outperform in every test.

Quads? Maybe, still not convinved myself, but try an intel i5.

Sorry Ty, it looks like that Case has been discontinued at Newegg (Although you can probably still get it elsewhere.)

I built a $700 rig not too long ago so I'm sure you'll get all that you're looking for within your budget.  But you need to move fast on some of neweggs combo deals tho.  wink

The list is missing a Graphics card because for one I want to buy a really good one, and I don't know which one is best. And secondly, the mobo has an integrated HD3300 I can use for most stuff until I decide on one I want.

What I am not sure of, is if everything I picked fits together right. Will I need adapters or anything else? Or are some things simply not compatible?

If I get this build I will probably buy it in pieces starting with the CPU/mobo and case, then the other parts. It will come out to nearly 900 dollars, without a graphics card even.

Not HAVING a gaming computer to relieve me throughout this process really makes me eager to spend my money...    There isn't even a console in this house... :[
