Topic: FS Dedicated Server with different Mods

Hey guys!

This issue is not directly related to First Strike, but I think it should be the right forum anyway.
I'm currently working in the team that develops the "Revenge of the Fallen" Stargate Mod for BF2142. We're making progress, but we can't host a dedicated server. The game says something like "There is another modversion running on this server." (translated from german)
I remembered, that your FS Dedicated Server is opensource and tried to adapt it to run our mod. But there was still this issue with the wrong modversion. Do we need to change some serverfiles? Is it sufficient to use the flag +modPath for the BF2142_w32ded.exe?

Re: FS Dedicated Server with different Mods

Using modPath should be sufficient.

Re: FS Dedicated Server with different Mods

Hi,
thanks for replying but something's going wrong here. When I do not have .md5 files generated, the server wouldn't let me join and I get the above error. When I generate the files (bf2142 and mod-folder, because the mod includes bf2142 files) and copy all content to the server's mod folder, the map-loadingscreen appears, but when it is finished, I get kicked because of modified data. I don't understand what the hell's going on with this thing. hmm

Re: FS Dedicated Server with different Mods

How are you generating your MD5s? Do you use the python file in the root folder and edit the mod_name to your mod ? Also, your clientarchives.con and serverarchives.con, do these include the bf2142 mod files? it's necesarry to include them, and to have entirely unmodified BF2142 mod, as it will check not just your new mod, but also bf2142 for modification.

Re: FS Dedicated Server with different Mods

I thought we included all BF2142 files, but it seems as if some files are missing. Yes, we are generating the md5 via the python script in Battlefield's root directory and changed the foldername. We will try to include the missing files. Thanks for your advice!

Edit: It doesn't work. I now encluded all original BF2142 files in the server and client cons (just copied the content of the original files into ours), installed a new stock BF2142-Dedicated-Server and copied the relevant files to the mods directory. But the Game does not let me connect to the server because of the "wrong mod" error. hmm

Re: FS Dedicated Server with different Mods

Any more suggestions? Or do you know somebody else, who can help us with this issue?

Re: FS Dedicated Server with different Mods

It's important to generate the md5s on the client version, not a server install.  It checks the client files and the md5s are generated relative to the client files.  This is what I can suggest based on your statement regarding running it on a fresh dedi install.
