Topic: Streaky Graphical Glitch

Getting some mental streaky graphical glitches, just changed to a new Graphics Card, an ATI Radeon HD 4870, still using XP, FS graphic settings on high. Anyhow, the resulting graphical glitches seem to occur when using vehicles, or scoped view on some weapons, just goes all streaky bacon on my pie, anyone come across this one before?

Oh, and I now get that Imperial Snowtrooper skirt bug that I never got before, most annoying.

I'd just switch back to my old card, but it has been a bit glitchy and is most likely on it's way out, hence the upgrade to this one, hope it's not that the card just isn't compatible with FS.

Ok, a 4870 is more than man enough to run FS. Last time I had artifacts like that it was cause my nvidia card was on its way out, manually clocking the ram and GPU sometimes cured it but not always. First thing to check is that you are running the latest ati catalyst drivers. I'd also reccomend a stress test, if it falls over then you have a duff card and need to RMA it.

If the stress test passes, then from the FS/2142 in game options make sure everything and I mean EVERYTHING is set to high. Exit then open up catalyst control panel and make sure you have it set to best performance. You can go expert and set other options to force a few things but knowing you it's prolly a little complex wink

Seriously though, artifacts like that suggest a memory issue on the card. Unless the rest of your system is causing a bottleneck. Stress test the GPU and check out more modern games on max settings. If you got a free title with the card run that and see how it performs, then RMA the card.

Something else just occured to me. You have got the extra powerline attached to the card right?

Yeah, all the bits are plugged in, it recommends that you have a lead that goes direct from the power source, but has leads and adapters, so it should all be working fine.

Have got the latest drivers.

Did a benchmark vid card stability test and got a result of 417, which seems about right for a 4870 series card running on XP.

Will try a few other games tomorrow and see if I get similar issues with them.
