Topic: New/Replacement Entha (Or all maps!) Gamemode

Team Deathmatch!  Or something similar. . .


What people dislike most about Entha is the running around in circles in a CP capping frenzy.  However, running around the map is also part of what makes it so fun, as the combat is *always* in different locations, so plays out differently almost every time.  Having a gamemode without the CP's, that still has the fun of ever-varying combat.

My suggestion: Have a ton of spawnpoints all over the map, maybe 3 spawn "clusters" for each team.  The clusters have 5 or so spawn points over a large area, so they can't easily be camped.  Possibly remove the Officer class (It's not that useful in combat, especially with limited Radar Scans and the gun is more of a camping weapon.  I suppose a beacon could be useful, but not by much as there aren't really any "objectives).  To make it more gameplay oriented, possibly have a "king of the hill" style of area, which if you are holding it, the enemy will bleed, just to make it more interesting, but I think it could work fine without it.


This would work well for some other maps too, I think.  I'd like to see it on Bestine, possibly Mos Espa.  I'd also LOVE to see it on EST: There isn't enough fighting between the trees, which is the best bit usually, so having a mode which compliments this kind of combat would be much more interesting.  Using the launcher, we could also release an update every so often which changes the combat area, to keep it interesting.  It also solves our issues with having no fun maps for low playercounts - compact and combat focused maps are our only good maps for low players, these maps are pretty much that but without CP camping.

Of course, I'm sure there are ways which this mode could be used in a way which promotes focus, but someone else can think of that.  TDM is actually *very* easy to do in 2142, it will require no "special" code, just two uncappable CPs that are linked to spawn points located all over the map.


Anyhoo, it's just an idea for now, however it would be nice to see some feedback on it, as I'm more than happy to (... annoy benu enough for him to...) make an attempt converting Entha for this gamemode of there is enough interest in it.  Then doing it with other maps if it proves successful.

DUKE815: Teamwork's complicated.  I've found that ramming a Lambda with a Y-wing at full boost is most effective.

i agree ! fs needs more game modes ,BUT not on EST all bestine/mos espa/entha is like labyrinth maps. while est is is is...

nahhh thats just teamwork and coordination... it makes the fun not to know where the enemy sneaks

Going with Gwyn on this one. Sure, its fun not knowing where the enemy is, but after a while, it gets annoying.

I think EST is ok, but I think there wold be a better way to fight over the tree village. I agree completely with Entha though.

I hear the pain. Entha is not a lot a of fun for small groups, or even large groups at times. While everyone is enjoying frenzied firefights in smaller areas it takes only a couple people to run round backcapping, avoiding any action and turning the game in to a constant battle of chase the cp.

Layout of the cps here aids that, its bascially a circle really, with lots of blind alleys to run down and avoid detection.

While I can appreciate people wanting to add something to the game I would like to make one thing perfectly clear to everyone. This has been posted in a public area by someone who has access to the testing area, so he can guage public opinion to this. You should all know by now, that even small changes take time to implement and test. I'm not saying this idea won't happen, but if it does get the go ahead don't expect it to be an overnight addition to the mod, or be something that happens quickly.

We already have other things we are trying to complete, they will take priority over anything else that is submitted. We do not want to cause any further delays to our work schedule. Keep the ideas coming though guys and we'll see what can be utilised, probably not for our next update, but certainly the one after that.
