with some of the newer more story driven games such as The Force Unleashed considered quite a bit higher, perhaps on par with the novels.

The higher-canon games also usually have an accompanying novel, which is the reason for their "upgrade".  This is certainly the case for the Force Unleashed, IIRC, the novel was actually pretty good.

Yeah, and then you also had Shadows of the Empire which was released as a multimedia event meant to rival that of a new Star Wars movie release, with an onslaught of toys, comics and novels to go with the game.

Re: AT-HE: All Terrain Heavy Enforcer (& Star Wars canon)

And I thought only Lucasfilm products (movies, TV-series) are canon only, since its not just Lucasarts who creates the games. Lucasarts can just be a publisher when the creator studio itself is something completely different. Same with books and comics, everyone can write SW which automatically makes it expanded universe, not canon.

Re: AT-HE: All Terrain Heavy Enforcer (& Star Wars canon)

Like I said earlier, there is a chart which Lucasfilm Licensing has which illustrates the various levels of canon, and it includes details of the level of accuracy to the source material that it needs to have to achieve that grade of canon. So basically all material is considered canon to a certain level, but only the movies and TV series are cast iron canon if you will. I'll have to see if I can dig it up, it is quite interesting actually. Even fan fiction is considering something like Z-grade canon or something.

I generally consider only the movies and shows to be canon myself, but then you get this level of cross-pollination between the EU and the movies when George Lucas sees something he likes from the EU and puts it in the movies (the Outrider ship from Shadows of the Empire appearing in the ANH Special Edition, Aayla Secura from the Dark Horse Star Wars comics appearing in the prequels, not to mention her master Quinlan Vos being name checked by Obi Wan in Ep3) instantly heightening the canon level, so I guess if he considers EU material close enough to his vision to put in the movies, then they deserve to be seen as such. And when games such as The Force Unleashed come out which are so closely intertwined with the plots of the movies the line between canon Star Wars and the EU becomes a little blurred.

Re: AT-HE: All Terrain Heavy Enforcer (& Star Wars canon)

Im the older breed then since I only see the movies and (unfortunately to some degree) the CW series as canon. Games, comics, books... they are just EU to me. I never take them "seriously" since they've caused me loads and loads of physical and emotional facepalms throughout the years of SW fanhood.

Re: AT-HE: All Terrain Heavy Enforcer (& Star Wars canon)

After reading the more recent novels, going back to listen to some of the earlier ones really upsets me.  Some of the huge gaps in lore (wasn't an issue when they were written) and just things which don't make sense really kills me.  It doesn't help that most of the old novels are also in abridged format on audiobook, meaning most of the story is actually left out.

X-Wing series, one X-Wing Squadron (And help from unmanned missile frigates, but still...) TAKING OUT AN SSD, ALL IT'S FIGHTER COMPLIMENT AND HAVING EVERYONE ON BOARD SURRENDER? WTF!  Holds hundreds upon hundreds of fighters, thousands of troops and resources.

Yeah, I'd like to see some of the older books rewritten - the base story being the same but fixing any plot holes, I just can't "fall" into them like I do with the newer novels.
