Topic: Prometheus

Check this out,

https://www.weylandindustries.com/

A cool viral website claiming to be the official corporate website of Weyland Industries, the precursor to ALIEN's Weyland Yutani Corp. Some good stuff on here including a corporate speech by Peter Weyland (played by Guy Pearce). Nice way of introducing us to the world of Prometheus, though the setting of 2023 seems a little too close to our current time. I'm hoping this speech is a flashback in the movie, and that the actual timeframe of the movie is some time after this event took place.

Have to say I'm quite looking forward to this.

Re: Prometheus

Full two and a half minute 2nd trailer, to say it looks intriguing is an understatement. Looks like someone's been watching Werner Herzog's Cave of Forgotten Dreams for some inspiration here.

Certainly a lot to think about in this trailer, hope it is the last one though. This one gives hints on the plot, but still manages not to give too much away. I feel revealing any more would possibly spoil it.

So what do we have here? Ancient scrawlings on a cave wall which lead the way to first contact with aliens, who at first seem benevolent, but something happens once they get there that makes them seem anything but. They were so wrong. Then we get live Space Jockey action, and possibly the first exposure to alien bio tech which could lead to the development of the Alien as we know and love it. Not to mention the beginning of The Company's obsession with getting their mitts on that tech at any cost judging by how mental Michael Fassbender's  android looks in some of those scenes. June can't come soon enough.

There is an issue with the look of the level of tech in this movie which looks more advanced than what we've seen in Alien and Aliens. An analogy which I thought was apt was that the vessels of Alien and Aliens were well used old workhorses of industry and the military, so the equivalent of an old truck and a Humvee, where as the Prometheus being a state of the art science vessel of it's time is more like a Ferrari. So even though it is 30/100 years older it still looks sexier and more sophisticated. That's one way to look at it anyway.

Re: Prometheus

Should just call in some republic cruisers and destroy the ship before it falls out of orbit : P

Re: Prometheus

Yet another new trailer, though spoilerphobes will want to avoid this one like the plague as it reveals quite a bit.

For a less spoilery Prometheus hit you could do worse than check out that Weyland Industries fake corporate site again, a lot of new content has gone up lately in addition to the TED 2023 talk, corporate timeline (A really interesting read this and a sublime bit of world building charting how we get from where we are today to the future you see in Prometheus, with corporations taking over space exploration, being the only organisations with the necessary funds to do so) and the David 8 ad that went viral lately, you've now got sections on Project Prometheus including high resolution shots of key vehicles and tech, and sections on various Weyland divisions including technology (you see what that little silver rubik's cube looking thing is from the latest trailer amongst other things), transport, cybernetics, terraforming, medicine, security, energy, etc. And they all give interesting insights into that world without giving too much about the film away. You can tell they had a ball with the world building on this one, and with Weyland Industries' very convincing monopoly on most corporate interests across the globe you can detect a little of Ridley Scott's involvement in the Monopoly board game movie in all this too.
