Topic: EA BF2142 Forums Close

Well with the closure of the official EA BF2142 forums, and pretty much anything Battlefield related as everything shifts over to Battlelog and all things BF3 related, I guess that is the last nail in the coffin for any official support for BF2142, EA at least considers that now a dead game to them, which is a real shame, I hope this doesn't also mean that a sequel of some form is not on the cards, even if it was some expansion content for BF3 which continued on the saga of the BF2142 storyline I think there would be a market for that, but time will tell I guess. Also looking at the forums for Battlelog there is no specific area to discuss past BF games so EA are definitely shifting the focus away from their rich BF history which seems a little shortsighted to me when you consider the strong fan base that even BF2 still has. What are people's thoughts on this? A big deal? Or Meh, so what?

Re: EA BF2142 Forums Close

It's a big deal to me. BF 2142, according to me, was the most solid Battlefield experience they've made.

Most popular game: Battlefield 2.
Best: Battlefield 2142.

While BF2 certainly was great, BF 2142 was a refinement of what defined BF at the time, the last true BF game so far. Then we got the Bad Company series, fun in it's own right, and BF3, which Benu_Kenobi accurately described as a crossover between Call of Duty and Bad Company. Oh, and a few free-to-play battlefield titles.

There was a poll in Battlelog a week or two ago, about whether or not people wanted to keep, change or get rid of kill cam. I was surprised and for some reason hurt when I saw that most players loved kill cam. It seems to me like DICE/EA is targeting another fan base now. A few people from BI, who were avid fans of Battlefield, were really disappointed in BF3.

Now, more about BF 2142. I truly think DICE/EA intentionally killed it. It was never as popular as other titles, and they took forever on getting that last patch out, and they never bothered to make an announcement of said patch on one of their official sites. Release a ton of betas, and whisper that the original version is out. I remember it was hard to find.

I will miss 2142, and I put in over 200 hours in that game, not bad considering I bought the game a couple years after it came out.

Re: EA BF2142 Forums Close

2142 was the most unique of all the battlefield games I played (and one of the most fun). And since BF3 came out no one seems to play it any more usually when I look there’s only about 15 populated servers, and now that the Forums are closed there'll likely be even less, who knows how few will play now? One Things that's odd is this BF2 Kept its popularity if you look at it on xfire's game rankings BF2 is 32nd right now and 2142 is 257th right now and the highest 2142 got is 4th and the highest BF2 got is 1st. It seems like 2142 was never as popular as BF2.

Xfire's Battlefield Game Ranks:
BF2:
Curent:32
Highest:1
2142:
Curent:257
Highest:4
BF3:
Curent:7
Highest:3

You can tell that 2142 was one of the less popular battlefield games, but you think if it was good they'd keep the forum around. Too bad people don't play it any more. sad

Re: EA BF2142 Forums Close

Yeah, BF2142 does seem to have been given short thrift considering how good it is, I guess the sci-fi elements that appealed so much to us might have put off the larger more mainstream gaming market or something.

Regarding the forums I do find it quite disgusting that they've shut them down without providing an alternative for discussing these older games over on Battlelog, maybe that is something we'll see soon, or something that will need to be petitioned for so there is still a forum to voice opinions of these games and help keep their communities going, though like you say, some of the decisions EA have made recently seem to be determined to kill these older games dead. As if talking about the good old days and what makes these games great will detract from their current product. They should be wise and learn from history, not sweep it under the carpet in favour of their current more consolified product (I actually only have BF3 for Xbox 360, not even touched the PC version), if there are things better about the old guard that fans liked then they should take note and look at incorporating those into future BF titles, but how are they going to do that if there is no official place to discuss the older games in the series?

Oh well, rant over. Time to get on-line for a few games of FS. See you on there.
