Re: The Future of Star Wars?

Depends what you're after, boarding battles as in BF2, which should be easily doable, or something more like FS or the XWing series. Perhaps the engine won't support worlds big enough for mass space battles.

Be a shame if we don't get some space combat. That's what star wars is for me, those epic space battles, be it mass fleet engagements or smaller skirmishes.

Re: The Future of Star Wars?

Visually it looks great. In engine only but it will look similar in game I'm sure.

Some of the details are disappointing tho
No space battles
No SP (personally not bothered)
No Prequel trilogy (ditto)
Only 20 players a side (= small maps no doubt)
Only 4 planets/Maps

Space was half of all the OT battles so their excuse doesn't wash.

Sounds more like a DLC pack than a full priced game. Cash grab?
I am disappoint.

Re: The Future of Star Wars?

It looks like someone pieced together a clip from interstellar to make it look like Matt is watching the Star Wars Trailer.

As far as Battlefront 3 features, not really any surprises, except that there will be coop/sp challenge missions that sound like they could be fun.   I agree that heroes tend to spoil the game.   I wasn't expecting SP for multiplayer, like in Battlefront 2,  since DICE doesn't support it with the Frostbite Engine.   Since DICE has not done space battles with the Frostbite engine, I was not expecting that either.   I would be happily surprised if DICE releases space battles as DLC.  Adding space would probably require major modification to the Frostbite engine, and there was probably not enough time to fit that into the development schedule.    DICE is keeping a lid on the plan for leveling up.   Let's just hope that it doesn't devolve into pay to win.   What I am most interested to see is all the work to make this the most realistic Star Wars game to date.   It's bound to be a very immersive experience.

Re: The Future of Star Wars?

I haven't watched the trailer for The Force Awakens yet, I'd rather not spoil anything.

To be honest though, if it weren't for the original cast members, I wouldn't watch the new movies. I understand making Disney a new canon, I don't really mind that at all, but abruptly ending the current canon kicked many of us fans in the balls. Anyway, it would take too long to talk about my issues with the whole situation.

I saw a picture of the new stormtroopers though, utterly amazing.

And on to Battlefront. Not impressed at all. DICE (or EA) just seems hellbent on making their games closer and closer to Call of Duty. Mind you, Battlefront was never teamwork based to start with, so I guess I should cut them some slack. But Battlefield has no excuse for what it's become.

Sorry for all the negativity! I guess I had to be THAT person. I just miss the old Battlefields and especially First Strike.

Re: The Future of Star Wars?

On the Force Awakens trailer: Amazing.

On the Battlefront info: I'm hopeful.

A lot of people are saying there will be no space maps but there has been no official confirmation on that. The Origin store page sort of makes it sound like it will just be atmospheric dogfighting though. Personally I wouldn't be *too* bothered if there weren't any space maps. Even if there was never any DLC that added it. It would certainly add some spice to the game though. Part of me wonders if EA doesn't have a dedicated SW space "sim" in their plans and don't want their games to compete with each other. Dunno.

But clearly EA PR has only signed off on very specific information being allowed to get out at this point. I HIGHLY doubt they will launch a $70-$80 game with 5 maps(land or otherwise). I am also hoping they will go with a Premium model so we can be guaranteed all of the DLC but as of right now they only have a deluxe edition which may or may not serve as a premium package. I found it to be a good value in BF4(yeah, I know I know).

In regards to the gameplay, I know some people have seen a match of Endor played and the gamemode was based around destroying all of the enemy's walkers(AT-STs and AT-ATs). No mention of flags to be captured. I'm ok with that but I am still a fan of good old conquest, even with sub objectives added in. DICE have said they based the gamemode on the map in order to recreate what you see in the movies but I don't know if that excludes multiple gamemodes per map or not.

Apparently the rebels can call in YWing airstrike on Endor. This again sounds like possibly something that is only available on that map/gamemode. Also I was glad to see portable ray shields in the trailer as that was a favorite feature of mine from GC and FS(not saying they took inspiration from us but who knows! lol).

EDIT: I'm just hoping the game will cooperate with my computer unlike BF4 which until recently would crash mid-game or the sound would cut out. I expect a buggy first release for sure as every Battlefield/Frostbite engined game has had.

Anyway I'll see you guys on there in November!

Re: The Future of Star Wars?

Their shield gens look a bit like our 'flag' base models, which were based on the holo projector in the Calamari cruiser
