Re: The Future of Star Wars?

From other things I've read, it sounds like there's some sort of squad reward system, so that may be where the ability to earn air strikes would come in, bit like Call of Duty.

I really hope at some point we are going to get some kind of space shooter/sim but I agree that it would be better in its own game. Trying to meld too much in to one game can cause a lot of issues and a long development time. Look how long it took FS to evolve!

I'll buy this because I think it could be a bit of a winner, or at least I hope so! We know Dice (well most gamers/programmers?!) are Star Wars fans, they've done a lot of research and they are aware of FS and GC and the reasons those mods were developed. Hopefully they've listened to what the fans wanted and we'll see a really good Star Wars experience.

Re: The Future of Star Wars?

They reminded me more of those caps that you find on the top and bottom of some of the cylindrical environment details you see around the Death Star interiors from Ep.IV, the design also looks a little like it takes some design cues from the console terminal Obi-Wan uses to deactivate the tractor beam too.

More feature details:

-Aim Down Sight in first person mode is in
-Certain special weapons are pick up items in the world
-Weapons seem to have a cool down mechanic as opposed to reloading, need more info
-No 3D spotting it seems
-Customizable characters(while keeping strictly authentic). Choosing the race of your character etc.

Re: The Future of Star Wars?

I've been reading through all the comments and reactions by fans on the different websites and I have to say, I'm beside myself by the amount of vehement and unwarranted rage fans are responding with. I mean, good grief, what's wrong with people today? It's one thing to be upset that something you were hoping for didn't get implemented, but they've taken it WAY beyond that. It's kind of disheartening.

People seem to forget the whole reason we got Battlefront I & II is because of the Battlefield series. DICE set the standard for the genre. Battlefield 1942 and Vietnam were a HUGE success, and gamers wanted the Star Wars equivalent (myself included). Unfortunately, what we ended up with wasn't the kind of experience I was hoping for. While Pandemic's Battlefront I & II could be a lot of fun, they were very unfaithful to the films and extremely arcade-y. Battlefront was essentially a poor man's Battlefield. I don't believe Pandemic was the right dev for the job.

Regarding gameplay footage  - considering how this sort of reveal is typically done at E'3, and that E'3 is just around the corner, I'm not surprised they're holding off on showing gameplay to the public. We just need to be patient.

Re: The Future of Star Wars?

Good Points Mechag2.  I hope DICE adds gameplay elements that encourage teamplay.

As far as the Force Awakens,  as long as JJ avoids the mistakes of the last three moves it should do very well, which he appears to be doing.

I don't see any evidence of the following:

- A cute pre-teen boy that is too smart for his own good, but loses that quality when he becomes a young man, and seems more of a teenager with too much power and raging hormones.
- A silly bumbling alien who becomes a senator - which makes absolutely no sense - except to capture the pre-teen market.
- A love story that fails to be believable because of poor acting and poor story line development.
- Over the top reliance on CGI takes over story.

JJ seems to have good recipe for SCI-FI movie making:

- Clever blending of the old with the new in a plausible story line.
- Believable characters.
- Good character development.
- Good mix of CGI with live action.

Both the Force Awakens and Battlefront 3 should be very entertaining in there own right.  Sure, there will always be disappointments on what we would have personally liked to have seen added, but it looks like the disappointments will be with what was left out, not with what was included.   Sure a lot of people wanted a sequel continuing the original character storyline with Han, Luke, Leia and Chewie.   Timothy Zahn wrote a great sequel trilogy over 10 years ago, which I would have loved to have seen made into moves,  but realistically, the actors are too old now to appear as the main stars.    I can't wait for both to come out.

Re: The Future of Star Wars?

Speaking of the PT, since we know the prequel era is not going to be included in the base game, I figure the next best thing would be to have about 3 DLC packs that would focus on each film in the PT and some CW. One gigantic DLC pack for everything would probably be unreasonable.

Really hoping for space combat down the road, too. With correct hangers. wink

Lastly, there's a few gameplay features I'm hoping DICE will include:

  • Ability to prone/low crawl.

  • Ability to free-look while in vehicle cockpit view.

  • True 360° free flight for starfighters (à la BF4 or SWBFII; hoping DICE will keep all speeders' flight performance accurate, though).

  • Tuck and roll (I liked this for infantry, but honestly didn't like the stunt maneuvers for starfighters).

Artificial intelligence is no match for natural stupidity.

Re: The Future of Star Wars?

So news has broken on the plot of Rogue One, and it is apparently going to revolve around a Rebel band's mission to steal the plans to the first Death Star, and will (obviously), be set between Ep.III and IV, interestingly the series of standalone movies will now be known collectively as the Star Wars Anthology Series, so I guess there is a lot of scope there for movies set in, but occurring on the fringes of that universe.

Also, once again, interestingly, at the panel at Celebration where this news was revealed, a little video teaser was shown that had the crowd going mental, so I'm curious as to what that could have been at this early stage. This plot should certainly make for an interesting movie though.
