Re: At Last! DICE to make the new SWBF!!!

It doesn't really work out that way. Sure you play the new modes and maps available in the latest DLC, but this doesn't mean you forget about the original or older game modes. I still play BF4 fairly regularly and play the majority of modes available, you have to remember that even with the new maps they tend to have the original game modes as well as the newer game mode that is released with that DLC. Servers also might just be set up for the latest DLC maps, or map mode, or they might be set for any of the DLC map selections, or any game mode, which might feature maps from across the different DLCs and original game maps released, so I find that even now I'll be playing a broad variety of maps depending on what the server I'm playing on is running at that time, or what game mode/map set I fancy playing. Plus, as I mentioned earlier it is well worth going back to the older maps as the updates have included enhancements to those maps with additional event sequences which have kept these older maps fresh too.

Re: At Last! DICE to make the new SWBF!!!

One of the best parts in FS was a Captain putting down an eweb, another guy putting down the power box, another guy putting down a shield and a trooper distributing sensors.

I never got around to trying SWBF demo. I got bored just after watching a few rounds.

One aspect I do like however is that they have included a bunch  of the weapons that have only ever appeared in FS. I remember pausing the Battle of Hoth every half second all those years ago cataloguing all the obscure weapons involved. Good times smile

Re: At Last! DICE to make the new SWBF!!!

Yeah, they seem to have brought a lot of the more obscure weapons to the fore. Perhaps we had a hand in that, or maybe that is just the result of spending some solid time in the Lucasfilm Archives. With our MG-15 finally getting an official name, and few other oddities showing up I'm sure it is also the result of generally higher definition imagery being available so people are spotting these weapons. What does annoy me is that even with a broader selection of weapons to choose from they have still chosen to use inappropriate weapons such as the Tusken Raider slug thrower as a sniper rifle for all factions, talk about an immersion breaker.

Indeed it was the high focus on teamwork encouraging gameplay that was one of FS's core strengths, the fact you couldn't be an army of one and had to co-ordinate with your team mates to truly get the most out of the game, be it with deploying the various assets that make a superior E-Web/Mk.II heavy blaster nest, to fully manning some vehicles and capital ships.

I think the lack of that co-ordinated teamplay is going to be my biggest bug bear with what they have going on in the new SW:BF, that and them slapping TIE Fighters all over Hoth.

Re: At Last! DICE to make the new SWBF!!!

Check out this update on SW: Battlefront.

http://starwars.ea.com/starwars/battlefront/planets

It looks like they're really going to town on the different modes available at each location to maximise the use of each planet and make sure you don't feel shortchanged by the relatively small number of worlds you get to explore in the game. These interactive videos for each world do a good job of highlighting this, and lets you explore them in some detail. Endor in particular looks ridiculously lush, and a Speederbike Chase Mode? I'm sold.

cool

Re: At Last! DICE to make the new SWBF!!!

As always, EA and DICE's marketing teams are on point big time.  Super impressive.

I'm still not sold though, the videos all make the games seem fantasticly fun, but I remember what I played and it was pretty much nothing at all like they showed (even batting aside the obviously scripted gameplay sequences).

The areas of the maps they showed which we've not seen looked pretty cool, but given the map design we've seen previously I'm not sure how well they work. They look more like interesting locations than fun to play in.  I saw some clips of the Endor Bunker area and although pretty it seemed... uninspired.

I will say though the various gameplay modes all look amazing. I'm really not sure what the "standard" will be, probably walker assault. With the massive variation they are putting in it's a real shame there won't be the likes of what many returning fans want: pure conquest.  I also worry long term about how easy it'll be to actually play these different modes.  In the battlefield games it can be really hard to find games that aren't the "main" modes sometimes.

It's super tempting to get, but I know if this game wasn't Star Wars, there's no chance I'd be buying it.  I've also been burned enough times this year with AAA games being horrendous on release, or dying out super fast.  This one will probably be a sale buy for me sad

The visuals are absolutely amazing though. Frostbite sure is pretty.

Now that Xbox users can play the game in full early, I'll be waiting a few days and watching some recorded gameplay footage.  Perhaps the final map design and gameplay with all unlocks will be a lot better than what we saw.

Re: At Last! DICE to make the new SWBF!!!

Here's hoping, but I have to admit I'm liking what I'm seeing here, and if they iron out at least some of the issues that blighted the Beta this could be pretty damned promising. And at last we see the use of a DLT-20a as a Sniper rifle rather than the somewhat odd choice of a Tusken Raider slug thrower, so that is a step in the right direction there. I think with this and the potential for more locations released in DLC this could be a winner. Oh, and if you're after Conquest, that is pretty much what Supremacy is (the other large map mode other than Walker Assault), Conquest in everything but name. (still looks to have starfighters on Hoth though. The campaign to get them to release a movie accurate version of The Battle of Hoth, from a gameplay perspective starts here).

Aurghh, and it looks like TIEs will have missile weapons via the same power up options that you can gain in ground trooper mode, that will annoy the hell out of me, but it is not the first time this series of games has sacrificed lore accuracy for gameplay. Bah!

Still, this lot that they have revealed has me cautiously optimistic. Consider this pre-ordered (like there was any doubt?).

Re: At Last! DICE to make the new SWBF!!!

Wow!  After checking out the website, it looks like judging the game on the beta may be unfair.  Only a few game modes were represented in the beta and each game mode may use different parts of the map.   With a possibility of 9 modes per map this is looking up.  Fighter squadron looks  similar to the dogfighting maps we were doing in First Strike with on the land maps in coop.   It's not space, but you will have space fighter combat, which is definitely worth checking out.   I really like the variety of game modes.    It looks like there will be an old battlefront style mode as well.    So, I will check it out on free weekend before I give full judgement.
