Re: At Last! DICE to make the new SWBF!!!

Yeah, the broad variety of gamemodes might be the game's saving grace. I like the Hero focused maps in that they're designed specifically for them, and in that scenario you get to play them without fear of them unbalancing the gameplay, as that is kinda the point in those modes, will also give you ample chance to master both how to play them, and how to play against them, and hopefully that experience will lead to them being less of a tide turner in other larger game modes that feature them.

I also like the look of Starfighter mode for similar reasons, because you're focused purely on dogfighting you can really hone your skills, I found flying in Walker Assault in the Beta really clunky and unintuitive, but hopefully that mode and a little more control settings tweaking will undo that.

I also love how they've taken existing well worn game modes but just given them a little bit of a Star Wars twist. Also fun to see a few more First Strike traits sneaking in there. Sensor droids for example, and the variety of quite different locations that there seem to be for each world depending on the map mode.

The more I watch the more I like, but as ever it is going to be how it plays when you finally get the full thing in your greasy little mitts that will matter.

Re: At Last! DICE to make the new SWBF!!!

Boba Fett looks great to play with.

The Wampa cave visuals look amazing too

Wish they'd cram most these gamemodes into one tho. Slicing up the game so much makes it feel abit like a collection of (very beautiful) browser games

Feels like a sneaky gimmick to get paid for doing very little as well. What would be the reaction if the game released with 4 planets and only 2 or 3 modes for each? not great. Well, no fear, just make the same maps and split everything up into a dozen gamemodes with a weather change and a few different lines of code  $tar War$, baby!

Re: At Last! DICE to make the new SWBF!!!

Heh, yeah I hear you. It does feel that way a little, but the different game modes do seem to be on quite different maps in each location, rather than just all on the same one. The Wampa ice caves you mention, the main battlefield, Echo Base, and the Rebel evac launch staging area on Hoth for example (though it would be nice to see a massive map with all that in one). So quite different locations within the same world. Hard to say how much overlap that there'll be until we get the actual game.

Re: At Last! DICE to make the new SWBF!!!

One big complaint is the lack of singleplayer campaign.   Instead, we will have singleplayer/coop missions with three announced modes: Survival, Mission Battles and Hero Battles.

Personally, I am happy with this.

Battlefront 2 Campaign mode was a series of objective based battles on the multiplayer maps with a story line that led from one to the other.  But, that game had multiplayer bots to work with.

DICE created campaigns are typically small, heavily scripted and predictable with little replay-ability.   IMO, it's a waste of DICE's time.

These DICE Battlefront SP/coop missions seem to be a return to multiplayer bots.   In fact, the comments are that it's like playing multplayer with bots.

When DICE dropped the Refactor Engine after BF2142 and moved to the Frostbite Engine with Bad Company and then Battlefield 3,  DICE dropped the multiplayer bots that had been around since BF1942.   Left 4 Dead and Warframe are very popular with this formula of a small coop team fighting hoards of bots.

I am very happy to see this new direction and hope to see more of it in future DLC packs and DICE games.

Re: At Last! DICE to make the new SWBF!!!

They seem to be developing bots for BF4 at the moment actually

Re: At Last! DICE to make the new SWBF!!!

Has EA/DICE confirmed bots in MP for BF3?  I know there was an E-Petition, and I had heard rumors but not actual confirmation from EA/DICE.

https://www.change.org/p/ea-battlefield … fline-mode

DICE has been trying to focus on MP and move away from MP bots since Battlefield 2 which was released with no instant battle, but only coop on 16 player maps and without any support for expansion packs.    Singleplayer was added only after a community backlash.   With the move to the Frostbite engine in BF3,  DICE  apparently did not code in MP bot support.   Now, I could see DICE adding some MP specific missions based on existing MP maps like they are doing for Battlefront, but I can't see DICE spending that much effort on full MP bot support for an existing game.  Perhaps in BF5?

DICE has been seeing sales drop by about 50% for each Battlfield game after BF3  (BF3 15M units; BF4 7M units; BF Hardline 4M units).  Now this could be just that BF4 was released too soon and was seen more like an expansion of BF3 rather than it's own game, and Hardline offered different gameplay that did not appeal to the same audience.   Problems with initial launches may have been a factor.   But, I think Battlefront success will be tied in with how well the movie does at the Boxoffice, rather than the reputation of the past releases DICE.   If fans love the movie, they will probably love Battlefront too.

Re: At Last! DICE to make the new SWBF!!!

I don't know about bots in BF3 but they had some somewhat hidden test servers for BF4 that you could log in to and there were some really early bots running around in game.

So I preordered Battlefront a few days ago. However I've had some pc issues before then(got a shiny new SSD as a result---so a new hard drive and fresh windows install) and I couldn't get BF4 to run. Turns out none of my Origin games will work at all. Some kind of issue activating my games via the EA server. It just wont connect.

I spent about 6-10 hours with EA tech support trying to fix the issue and they cant figure it out. By the end of it I couldn't even log in to Origin...so I cancelled my preorder.

It is really a shame as I love BF4 and was starting to get excited about Battlefront(and looking forward to BF5 eventually...I just remembered all future Star Wars titles will be EA games...CRAP!). I'll keep poking at it from time to time and maybe it will somehow get fixed and I can play but we'll see.
