Hmm. I chose 3, but on reflection 1 would be better, that way they wont be as pressured and can take the time for a good first release (and a quick one tongue ) I was just being greedy.

3 maps, especially completely different maps, would take some time. For me, that's A LOT of work as I'm the only dedicated texture artist and we only have a couple coders. If you wanted, say Bespin, Endor and Death Star (not that these are the maps we are set on releasing first) I would say it would take us another 4 months, easily. If you wanted 2 maps, the time significantly decreases. And finally 1 map, the time might even be closer to a weeks.

Note, I'm not promising anything relating to a release date, and the maps I used were for example only, I'm just trying to say that it's easy to say how many maps you want, but you have to realize that these things take a lot of time, and we are doing this in our spare time.
We don't have EA breathing down our necks telling us to release a buggy product. We are going to do this right, and make something that people will enjoy.

My opinion on the subject is we should not release to the public till we have three, two at an absolute minimum maps. The servers wont stay full if we only have one map and what if player don't like it? Basically three is a good number and that is what i believe we shoul aim for. An internal Alpha on the other hand would obviously only need one map.

Here is an idea. Get 2 maps done. Release by May 24th. Then work on more maps and release them before summer ends.

I don't think many of us care when the mod gets released...  but as I stated before if the first release isn't too fancy, your initial following will be rather small... first impressions on the public is something that should be kept in mind...
