Topic: Some suggestions and questions on flight

First I must say its great that BF2 gets a Star Wars mod! I usually keep an eye open for all Star Wars mods, no matter what the games hehe.

Anyway there are some things I would like to hear what the team thinks (or maybe already said) about how spacecrafts are going to be handled.
If I look at how Galactic Conquest handled spacecombat (I must compare to something smile ) I think all the fighters was just to manoeuvrable to make fun combat. Often I get a feeling it was an endless spinning around until you lost eachother or you got a lucky hit when you passed by in a second.
The thing is that good dogfighting is not synonymous with super maneuverability, save quick turning superflight machines for the snowspeeder I would say.

Speed on the other hand I hope you will/can have on the fighters, fast  fighters moving over the deathstar is not anything bad in my world at least smile.

Well thats what I hade to say, hope all get what I mean.

Hi there, WELCOME to the forums! As you said, the Developing Team will have to answer that, but in Space, there is rumored to be no gravity in this mod.

Hey, you got your Star Wars in my Star Trek!!

The space and air manuoverability of the craft are still being worked on. We want to try to find a good balance between fun, skillful and realistic combat. smile

Re: Some suggestions and questions on flight

Now I have a question on dogfighting. In bf2 most of aircombat is missle based, something I personally like the feel of, though I give my cannon plenty of work too. But in star wars they're seems to be a big mix between lasers and missles. For instance if u read the rouge squadron series, you know that they used they're proton torpedoes alot against ties. And ground units for the matter. Are you going to try to make space combat mostly laser based? I think most would love dogfighting to be mostly lasers, but an odd torpedo thrown into the mix wouldn't bother me. How do you guys plan on handling that?

Re: Some suggestions and questions on flight

I am all for a mix but with the focus being on lasers.

So if my X-Wing gets great laser but only has like 2 or 4 proton torpedos then thats perfect because that is the way you see it in most of the movies. Furthermore it is alot easier to have better balance with projectile weapons then missile based weapons.

Re: Some suggestions and questions on flight

The thing is, if we make the torpedoes/missiles too accurate/powerful, then that's all the dogfights will be, trying to get a missile lock, and no one will use their lasers.  However, if make them perfectly balanced with lasers, then everyone will be happy and dogfights will be great. smile  We'll be working on it I'm sure.  Testing testing testing.  I personally would like to see lots of lasers flyin around the combat zone, it's good for effect, but missiles are important to gameplay as well, as it can be difficult to hit fast moving targets with un-guided weapons.  Have faith, there will be lots of testing and a compromise will be reached.

Re: Some suggestions and questions on flight

For me I would like lasers the most, not often I see missiles in Star Wars movies. But on the other hand its a big question either, some missiles can be cool I guess smile.  I would like to say that dogfighting in the movies and should in general be in the game lika a WW2 simulator and less like a modern type of Jet fighter game (and yes I know that Star Wars is super advanced technology).

Not sure but in Battlefront 2 I got the feeling that in space combat there it was way to much focus on using missiles and getting a lock ans so on. Anyone agree with me on that, or does my memory fail me.
