Topic: Intelligent Map Lists *Now With More Immersion*
I'm not sure if this is possible with the BF2 engine but here goes:
To add realism it would be good if First Strike used intelligent map lists, where the next map is decided on the outsome of the previous map.
For Example:
Picture this:
You boot up First Strike. You browse through the server lists. You just bought a new joystick and you're looking for some starfighter action. You see a server: Battle Of Yavin IV, good ping, a lot of people on the server to play with. You load up the server and join the RA.
SCENARIO ONE:
Your team is kicking space-nazi pie. The squads are using VOIP and you have a Bothan Spy on the Imp Star Destroyer. He's disabled the engines, blowing TIEs up as soon as they launch thanks to some hidden det packs and causing general mayhem throughout the Imp forces. You're flying along and your eyes flick over the Ticket count. One Imp left. A TIE Bomber grows large in your sights and you squeeze the trigger. As your target explodes in flames, the screen changes. You have won the round.
The next map loads. Because the Rebels succesfully defeated the fleet guarding the Death Star, the next map is the Death Star Trench. You watch the loading bar tick over as you saddle up for some more pwnage.
SCENARIO TWO:
A long time ago, in a galaxy far away, you are screwed. The Imps are pounding down on you. You nail a TIE fighter but the joy is fleeting, as a disembodied voice announces that Stormtroopers have taken control of your Mon Calamari Cruiser. You turn your X-Wing and head for the Hangar Bay, hoping that you can be of some use to the war effort. But alas, the ship is taken and within seconds there are Stormtroopers manning the remote controlled Laser Batteries. You go down in flames. Between the two capital ships your teammates are butchered. Your only hope is a small infantry squad onboard the Star Destroyer. They run into an ambush. You listen to the radio reports and watch the kill listings. Your squad has prevailed, but in the confusin of a Flash-Bang they run into a Laser Mine cluster. You are doomed, and the screen comes up, proclaiming your failure.
The next map starts to load. Because the Imperial fleet was succesful, the next map is the Temple Of Massassi. You vow to use all of your cunning to wire your base with imaginitive traps, but then you realise you got a spot as a Unique Class and just run off into the distance.
The server would move to the next map set after the RA has destroyed the Death Star, The GE has taken the temple, or after a preset number of rounds. If the RA failed to destroy the Death Star or The GE were repelled from the surface of Yavin IV, the map could return to the space battle, ot could just move to the next map set, depending on the server.
