Topic: Water Warfare
Right, well I know expanded universe stuff is a bit on the back burner for FS, which I actually think is a good idea. None of the less, I thought I might as well bring up one area of star wars I always found neat, underwater warfare. I really liked GC's mon calamari map, but I found that exclusion of anything below the waves somewhat odd. There was a whole bunch of stuff going on down there. Here are some intresting things about this stuff on the star wars database thingy:

This thing looks really, really cool. Imagine trying to hold off acouple of these beasts.
Underwater warfare in star wars, maybe on a mon calamari map, or something similar, would be heaps of fun. But is it possible to have underwater battle? When ever you jump into the water from a high height, you get to see how everything looks down there, which is pretty cool. Would it be so hard to code the ability to swim under the water? Or should that prove to be impossible, how about making the sea trooper armor a 'viechle' you could get in that behaves exactly how normal infantry do, but have the ability to manuever underwater (I know several bf2 mods have made working submarines, so is this such a stretch?) and to fight with blasters and stuff. The star wars article (posted above) mentions blaster/speargun hybrids. That would be really neat. I remember I watched that cartoon clone wars thing on cartoonnetwork along time ago (what? I'm not above watching cartoons!) and they showed this huge battle between republic forces allied with moncals against quarren. The moncals used this really awsome underwater mount. http://www.starwars.com/databank/organi … index.html
Perhaps the Imperial spear gun slung underneath the blaster could act just like the gernade launcher from bf2. When the trooper switched to it, it could be very effective against these beasts, though slow to reload, and very little ammo.
The mon cals could also use a 'kit/viechle' that would be armed well for underwater combat, and could let them manuever underwater. The justification for them needing a kit to go underwater would be that they need organic gills. ('Though they can breathe water, they find it somewhat uncomfortable, and use organic gills whenever possible. A panicked Mon Cal, particularly a young one, could still potentially drown underwater.'-Star Wars DataBase)
Another cool thing would be for any rebel human members on mon calamari to be able to use old clone trooper armor from that clone wars battle. HDUs would definetly be a cool thing on a map like this. http://www.starwars.com/databank/organi … index.html
Alright so after all that let me put toegther a hypothetical map set up on Mon Calamari:
After a particularly annoying attack on Imperial troopers, the empire has put it's foot down hard, using star destroyers to destroy 3 floating mon calamari cities. The mon calamaris thus rose up against there oppressors, and the battle for mon calamari began. In a desperate last bid to regain control of the situation, imperial commanders have sent a quickly organized assualt force, compromised of 2 old republic/imperial Acclamator assualt ships. These ships have set down on the waters surface (exactly the same way as from the clone wars cartoon) and have launched an attack against an underwater Mon cal resistence complex. Launching ATAT swimmers along with seatroopers, and several members of mon calamari hating Quarren (who had sabotoged the world's defenses, allowing the destruction of the 3 floating cities) the force are attempting to destroy the base.
The Mon Calamari's however, have long prepared for such a struggle. They're base is fitted with several large defensives turrets, for use against the ATAT swimmers. They also have a large number of mon cal amphibious infantry and calvary, along with several members of human rebel agents (who came to train and arm the fledgling) ready to defend the outpost. The resistence is armed with a large amount of preempire arms, such as clone trooper SCUBA armor, and old DC-15 blaster rifles. The Resistence also controls a very small island, on which they have several amphibious quick attack boats that they can use to attack the Acclamator landing ships directly.
I know this would probally be alot of work. I think it would be very cool. Maybe its something to be considered for a later release, as not many people know the story of how the Mon Cals ended up inthe rebelion.
