Topic: Teamwork-Orientated Vehicles

I find a major problem with BF2 is that most of the good vehicles work well by yourself. For example, tanks and APCs are driven and gunned by the driver, and don't need anyone else in them. This leads to people driving vehicles solo instead of teaming up. Having vehicles like the attack chopper and jeeps, in which the driver has limited or no weapons, encourages people to team up much more. Before it got nerfed, this used to happen with the Black Hawk helicopter.

Under this system, every vehicle with 2 or more seats would have significant benefits to having a copilot/gunner. For example, without gunners in the turrets, the Falcon  would only control the laser and/or missiles on the front, not much use. By waiting for those gunners, it becomes a powerful ship (unlike the BF2 bombers, in which the copilot has rubbish missiles).

Tanks shouldbe limited to anti-infantry weapons, and the gunner would control the anti-armor weapons, similar to Battlefront 2.

On minor capships like the vette and neb, you could have a pilot and up to 6 gunners, each of which would control a group of turrets. Even on things like the speeder bike, the passenger could fire his handheld weapon.

Also, most vehicles should have plenty of passenger spots, even if they cant do anything. The vodnik on BF2, for example, clearly holds space for around 8 people, but only holds 4. Pointless.

Re: Teamwork-Orientated Vehicles

I think the best example which describes what you're talking about is the AT-AT. In the movie you had to have two people dedicated JUST to controling the craft, and more for the guns and weapons. Now I don't think First Strike's AT-ATs will have two people driving them, but we'll see if the driver can control any weapons.

Re: Teamwork-Orientated Vehicles

good points there, personally I agree with "forcing" teamplay on vehicles.

Re: Teamwork-Orientated Vehicles

Very good post, I always found it not only odd, but counterproductive when ea made the viechles, like the tank, completely formidible when only used by one person. Besides, two person controled viechles, especially tanks and assualt viechles, would handle great with a driver gunner config. Lets the gunner focus more on gunnin, and the driver focus more on driving.

Perhaps a good extention of this would be to FS's Y wing (should there be one). I think that maybe the pilot should only have control over his foward lasers and the craft's steering. The back seat gunner could have the guided torpedos, which would allow the pilot to focus alot more on flying, and letting his gunner tkae the shot. The gunner could work like the cobra gunner (tho hopefully not the same missle scope) where he can control the ion turret and the torpedo.

Re: Teamwork-Orientated Vehicles

Player-guided torpedoes? Torps were always lockon guided. I think the turret is enough for the gunner to handle.

Not so sure about the TIE Bomber though, that was traditionally one seater, but Battlefront made it two.

Re: Teamwork-Orientated Vehicles

wasn't the Y-Wing a single seat vehical?  I like the idea of R2 being a seat, but the only other vehical that has a co-pilots spot is the TOW-Cable gunner in the Snow Speeder (as far as fighters go).  That and that strange gas planet thing. the red 2 seated vehical that escorts the mellinum Falcon in Ep. V? lol idk what it's called.

I guess it could be an interesting Ad-on... having a Y-Wing Co-Pilot...
