i'm not too keen on Jedi and Sith running around, but i quite like the idea of special kits. i don't think 'Han Solo' or 'Boba Fett' kits should be used but maybe somethnig like a 'Trandoshan Bounty Hunter' kit that has a unique rifle, or a 'Clone Trooper' kit left in a deserted bunker somewhere. Nothing like hero classes, just a nice little twist on the battlefield to come up against someone with an out-of-the-ordinary weapon.

Hi everyone.  Good ideas Big.   I guess copyrights come into play with the Main Heros.  I see what you guys mean about not wanting jedi for maps that are supposed to be storyline battles with no jedi in them.  Could always make up a couple that didn't "exist" though big_smile

Heres some more ideas since I got some time.

Squadleaders should be a little more Unique some how. Visual differences and equipment differences might be cool if done well.
Make people want to hang around the squadleader for some nice little bonus only the squadleader gives out and only squadmembers recieve.
Like the squadleader being a uav scanner that only reasonably close squadmembers can see. Make it Good to be the squadleader, but only if he has a squad.  No one man armys.
More squad members = higher scanning range
0 squad members = 0 scanning range
Just think of it as more scout droids being allocated to the squads that will be the most effective.

I just wanna see a little incentive for people to work together in pubs.

Squad leaders should be able to call in artillary strikes on their own possition if no commander is on. big_smile

Re: Ideas on Jedi/Sith and kits

Jedi classes would ruin the whole point of having soldier classes because everyone would take advantage of the jedi classes and use them tons more often than soldier classes.

An example of what i mean is: In swbf2, on the assualt mode, everyone chooses aayla secura or ki adi mundi most of all and about no one plays with han solo, leia, or chewbacca because they're not as powerful as the jedis.

if chewbacca was a jedi i would run away like a little girly girl

Re: Ideas on Jedi/Sith and kits

I agree with Han Solo to an extent.  I believe that Jedi/ Sith would rather have to be earned then selectable as a class (except of course, on certain maps, for example, if Geonosis were made for the prequel era, then Jedi should be a weakened version of the "Hero" Jedi).

I also believe that Jedi should be a very unique "class", for lack of a better word.  They should have abilities that no other class could possible even imagine beating, however the usage of such abilites would have to be truly difficult.  Say, the ability to push someone down with the use of the Force would be incredibly useful.  However, there should not only be risk in using it, but it should also require some skill to use.  What I mean is, perhaps a very quick mini-game that would be required (such as, a certain, random button press) that would interpret whether the use of the Force would work.

Saber combat should also be a very important part of playing the class, both Saber vs Blaster and Saber vs Saber.  I'm not a fan of, say, holding down the mouse button while shots come at you and you automatically block.  I would prefer a system similar to that of Playstation 1's old "Jedi Power Battles."  You would have to press the block button at the instant it would hit your lightsaber to return the shot directly back at your opponent.  If you hit it within, say, a second or so before it hits, it would deflect, but in a random forward direction.  If you hit it far too early or at all too late, it would not be blocked and simply hit you.

Saber vs Saber combat, in my opinion, should be only an occassional thing, as only the best of the best (in the thread starter's fantastic idea on how to implement Jedi/Sith fairly) have the chance to play as the reknowned Force Users.  However, it should also be something very unique and very fun.  I believe it should also be something that highly discourages soldiers to shoot into the fight.  Perhaps, when two saberists engage fighting with eachother, a series of mini-games occurs, where the saberists would have a more limited moving ability, and whichever direction you move your mouse would be the direction your saber would swing.

More difficult to implement, but what I believe an idea Saber vs Saber system, would be where you come into close range with an enemy saberist and, as before, engage in a "Saber fighting" mode.  At this point, your movements, again, become more limited, however you can, say, press a certain button on your keyboard to ecome more acrobatic, allowing for quick movements to dodge saber slices (think how Obi-Wan Speed-runs to avoid Dooku's slice in Episode II: Attack of the Clones, or even Yoda's agile style).  During this saber combat mode, the right mouse would control (as an example) blocking.  Holding down the left mouse would not do anything, but if you hold down the left mouse and move the mouse, you would defend in that direction.  Successfully defending would, obviously, save your life, and if timed right, might even cause the enemy saberist to lose control of the saber, allowing for a counterattack.  Along the same lines as defending, attacking would consist of holding down the left mouse button and moving the mouse, slashing in the direction which your mouse moves.

I believe that, however, would be very difficult, if not impossible, to implement.  It would, in my opinion, though, be a very entertaining system that would constantly keep Jedi and Sith in the action, rather then simply being a support class.  It would allow for a delicate balance between the simple Jedi and Sith that remain in back, assisting their allies, and the phenominal Jedi and Sith that are capable of taking on a massive army of soldiers on their own.  Both situations would be fully possible, but obviously it would require the right amount of player skill in both situations to successfully be a Jedi or Sith.

Re: Ideas on Jedi/Sith and kits

How about we play "everybody gets a turn on the hero." One person gets randomly assigned the hero at game start, and when they die, the next person (or a random person) gets it. To prevent hero-hogging, health could run down similar to Battlefront 2 (although alot slower due to the bigger maps here.) and be recharged with kills, forcing heros to come out. What epople seem to forget is that this is the GCW, and the only jedi around are Vader and Kenobi.

Heroes:

Tantive IV: Leia, Darth Vader
Tatooine: Ben Kenobi, Sandtrooper leader
Yavin Space: Luke (X-Wing), Imperial Officer (Tie Fighter)
Trench Run: Han Solo (Falcon), Vader (TIE X1)
Yavin Temple: Jan Dodonna, Darth Vader
Hoth: Luke (Pilot), Darth Vader
Bespin: Lando, Garrsion Commander
Endor: Chewbacca, Han Solo, Garrison Commander x2
Endor Space: Lando (Falcon), Fighter Wing Leader (TIE/I)

If I should die, think only this of me:
That in some corner of a foreign field
There lies a plagiarist.

Re: Ideas on Jedi/Sith and kits

who's Lando and Sandtrooper Leader?
Btw on Tatooine it should be Boba Fette vs Luke or Han Solo
Can there also be a Death Star map with Ben Kenobi vs Darth Vader
Also a Dagobah map with Luke vs Darth Vader

Yea I dont think that everyone should be able to pick a "Special Kit"  Only the 8 squad leaders.  I also dont think they should be "Super Heros" Different, but not more powerfull.  The swbf2 random system should not be used to pick who is a "hero kit".  Jedi/Commando kits should die just as easy as anyone else... Make them skill based kits, not "meat shields"

I think visual differences would be great for the squad leader to make things easier for the squad members.  Being able to visually pick out the SL from the rest of the squad would make leading easier while making you more of a target for the enemy.  It would balance out, I think....  well as long as squad leader equipment wasnt overpowered.
