Topic: Snow

Well I've got another idea, but I'm not really sure if it would improve the experience or not. These things just pop in my head, and seeing as I think out loud ur all gunna hear it. Lucky you! I don't know why I bother with intros anymore...
Anyways. I was playing on that swampy map in Manchuria on Bf2 the other day. I don't remember what it's called, but I'm sure you all know it. Anyways, I thought the areas where infantry and viechles wade through the shallow waters was pretty nice looking. I like seeing teh apcs and jeeps splash there way through. Which got me thinking how cool it would be to see At-sts and other legged viechles wading through. And somewhere along the line my mind wondered about snow. How come the heavy heavy viechles never sank even a little bit into the snow of hoth in the games? Not even a tad. So I started thinking about a new type of terrain, that would act alot like bf2's shallow water. When people and viechles moved over it they're feet and wheels would sink into it. It could also change gameplay dynamics a little. Perhaps there could be deep snow drifts in some places, and when players fall into them past they're waist (like water) they get kinda stuck, and can't use they're weapon. They have to kinda hobble out (like swimming, but hopefully with a very different animation) which takes awhile. Some areas in front of the Rebel's defensive trench line on hoth I'd figure would be great places to have deep snow drifts. This would cause the imps to advance slower, and funnel them into kill zones (once they learn the areas to avoid). This could make the battle of hoth feel alot more trench based (as it should be imo). But also it would just be neat. It could cushion the blow of falls (like real snow), give viechles a tougher time moving quickly, and also forcing them to stay on more charted out roads (to avoid snow drifts large enough to really really slow down a viechle. Maybe, if it's codeable people and viechles could make tracks in the snow (that dissapear after like, 15 seconds). Just my voiced thoughts...:)

Pretty much water that looks like snow, and has a couple different attributes.

Re: Snow

I love the idea but will the BF2 engine allow it?

Re: Snow

Great idea kind of remind me of Mario 64 when you sink in the sand; hopefully it can be implemented.

Re: Snow

This sounds like a great idea

Re: Snow

yeah but would soldier be affected by this?

Re: Snow

I think it would work, but the system would be very glitchy.

Re: Snow

I'd pretty much just think of it as the same shallow water from that bf2 swamp map, except made to look like snow, and with a different 'swimming animation'. I doubt it would pose a coding problem. Though whether if it would be fun or not I really don't know. Would be one of thse things you gota try out to know I guess.
