Re: 2142

in fact BF2 already had the features of the BF2142 game (as in support for vehicle walking) but they took it out prior to release so they could make a second game that wuz not the same thing as mods could produce
same with man other features they took out of BF2 in the last moment to make more games (aka some of the special forces extras)

Re: 2142

Where did you hear that Proton8?  I hadn't heard anything like that, but coming from EA I don't doubt it.  That's one of the reasons I really like Bungie, they do a lot of things for their fans.  For example, the multiplayer map pack for Halo 2 was eventually released for free, and not that long afterwards.

However, I'm a little excited for BF2142 for several reasons, although I'm not sure if I will buy it.  I will definately wait for some reviews and word of mouth information.  Things that looks interesting:

-Walking vehicle support:  Very important for a mod such as ours

-Cloaking tech: Interesting possibilities for this one, TIE Phantom, Halo mod w/active cammo?

-Titan mode: Very important for the Star Wars universe

-Integrated AI: Yes this is possible, there are personal defense robots that are launched as a weapon and they basically watch your back, this would become very cool for things like autocannons and automated base defense

-Passenger dependent vehicle features: This was confirmed in an EA interview where it was revealed that the APCs could cloak if you had enough people in them.  This would be important for things like ships that need a certain number of crew to operate them.  For instance you wouldn't be able to take off in a Shuttle unless you had at least two people in it.  Could be very useful for encouraging teamplay and discouraging the non-strategic uses of transports (using it as your personal transport without taking team members).

-Large moving ship support:  It should be obvious why this would be important to a Star Wars mod.  I was a little angry that they took this out for BF:2, naval warfare was really cool in BF:1942.

-Relatively easy porting from BF:2 to BF:2142:  I heard that EA was working on making it very easy to port from BF:2 to BF:2142 which sounds like the first smart, community helpful thing that they have done for a long time.  IMO, making it easy to port from 2 to 2142 would be very smart for EA because many of the mod teams would probably be excited for the new features, but reluctant to port due to time and workload issues.  If it were easy to port, then teams wouldn't have to spend another year in development, instead they could use all of their existing work and release quickly, therefore starting the mod-base for 2142 very quickly.

I still have mixed feelings on 2142 though.  IMO the best move EA could make would be to put off 2142 untill it is READY to launch WITH a mod editor ON RELEASE and all of the compatability issues have been resolved for porting.  This would give mod teams more time to get some releases out, and it would help EA get a better product out that people would enjoy more.  Releasing 2142 too soon would, once again in my opinion, be highly detrimental to sales due to BF:2 still being a viable game with a highly active mod community.  Why would gamers want to switch (and pay extra money) when they have everything they need already?

That is just plain inability to look past the past.  Do not judge something that you know nothing about.  Until the game comes out and I hear if it's good or bad, I will not make any refusal to buy it.  A bad past does not always become a bad future.  I still trust that EA will create an enjoyable game that we can all have fun playing together in.  I trust in EA, even though they have not given me any reason to do so in the past.  Why?  Because everyone has a chance.  When the community of players become arrogant, too arrogant to look past their own deluted opinions on a certain company because of past games, then a company will fail.  However, if a community is willing to help the developers by broadcasting their ideas on how to make a good game, then that very game that the people want will become true.

If you want this game to be made well, and if you want to play a great Battlefield game, then stop bashing EA and take a moment to e-mail them your complaints in a very formal manner.  Tell them how you believe they can improve their game and all other aspects of their company.  Silence will not create an enjoyable experience.

ARE YOU JOKING!!!!!??????
Your telling that after Bf1942:RTR, BF1942:SW, BF: Vietnam, BF2 and its Booster Packs, and all the patchs that they have released your telling me that after all that crap you still have faith in them....

They lied to us.  I expected 100 man fully destructible environments and laser guided missesls. They should not have said that until after they tested.

For hamsters sakes they have a Black Hawk with rocket pods on the back of the box THATS NOT EVEN IN GAME!!!

I still look twoards the future thanks to mods but even that looks grim i hear that Dice is not making it easy for them. I am not an EA basher but atleast just release a decent patch....

Re: 2142

yea EA has quite a "colourful" history with gamers, they thorw in a whole bunch of "features" into a game, and in the end only a small number of them makes it into the game
but it aint really that big of a deal, the game is still fun to play, lets just wait til the game comes out

BF2: Special Forces does not suck . Its better than Bf2 vanilla.  In fact, its the best of the series.

Re: 2142

I agree SF is great, It gave tonnes of new features, a bunch more weapons, but If I had my time again I wouldn't part with the cash. SF is to big for a booster yet to small for an expansion, imo. They had some damn good ideas but in typical EA fasion they stuffed them up.
*Quad bikes - Not sure how widely used they are, but definately not more than 2/3 a map unless, the map features a motor bike store tongue. For some reason SPETNAZ just don't look right on them...
*Jet skis- Should have only been on SEAL levels
*Objective mode - Mass Destruction, (The one with the missile), levithan
*Apaches - THe NAVY does not use aphaches (especially SEALs)
*SF regiments do not seek out other SF regiments they attack regulars
*Iron gator - LOL (need I say more)
*Elevators -Glitchy
*MEC:SF have worse guns then regular MEC

I made a huge list about 6 months ago of all of the BF2 problems, to make a petition (In one sitting off the top of my head I made three pages big_smile)I might dig up soon....

IMHO: 2142 will be better but wont have the fan base SCi-Fi is far less popular than A modern/historical FPS and most people regonise it aint going to be that much better than BF2. Basically a new name on an old box with a few things they purposely left out of the orriginal.
